Toshiba EP30 Vs XBox 360
Hey all, ive been disappointed with the 360's SD performance since day one, infact its one of the worst DVD players ive ever seen. I have the HD Add-On and thats fine. I use a Z5 for my movies and watching SD content when its that poor is unbearable so i need an upgrade. Im thinking of selling the Add-On and using the funds towards the EP30, what i want to know is how good is the upscaling? I want a significant improvement over the 360's performance. If anyone can give me any advice i would be really greatful!
Thanks, Andy

Re: Toshiba EP30 Vs XBox 360
i sold my 360 add on for the same reason.
it was loud, to many cables and look naff.
my ep30 is coming this week and by all accounts the up scaling is very good and there is a defiante improvement.
i think its a no brainer £189.99 with 7 free films.

Awesome, be sure to tell me how it compares to the SD PQ on the 360 when you get it this week

How is your 360 connected? My Elite via HDMI is easily as good at upscalling SD-DVD's than my EP35, in fact I prefer it as I don't have to keep switching from 24hz to 60hz.

Re: Toshiba EP30 Vs XBox 360
I have it set up with component on 720p, i have an older premium so i cant go HDMI. The native resolution of my PJ is 1280*720 so maybe theres too much scaling going on, im not sure, the whole scaling thing is confusing

Does your PJ have a VGA connection? The 360 can upscale using that, might be worth a try before splashing out.
Or stick your premium on ebay, I did that last week and by the time I sold the stuff that came with my Elite it cost me £5.

Re: Toshiba EP30 Vs XBox 360
Same here just switched from a 360 HD Drive to the EP30 with a JVC HD1 as the display.
I'm very impressed. The upscaling is so good on the EP30 and I know what you mean about the 360 SD looking naff. I actually feel I can now work back through my 'old' SD DVDs again!
I'm sure you won't be dissapointed.
Point to note the EP30 is region locked (only SDs of course) but hopefully someone will come up with a hack.
Also you have to manually swtich between 1080p 24fps for HD and 1080p for SD which is a pain but i'm sure that will get fixed in a firmware update.
I sold my add-on drive on Ebay - budnled in the remote and two 'B' class movies - I got £85 with £10 for postage - well pleased.
