I presuming most people will be having people over to watch their new TV's/Projectors etc, so this thread might be of use to those too.
I have the wifes family coming to my house for Christmas day and they are already asking what movie Im going to put on for them on Christmas evening. This actually will be the first night viewing with a crowd for the home cinema in its finished state aswell!!!
I had completely forgot about it and now Im a bit stuck for ideas to suit them all.
I will have 2 in their 60's
4 in their 30's
1 40
1 17
1 10
What are others watching, or suggest?:god:

If its not to show your gear of It’s a Wonderful Life if it not already been shown on one of the channels, Just the one at 17 may not think it cool with it being B&W.

The original Miracle On 34th Street .If it has to be colour and a bit more modern then Young Sherlock Holmes or Gremlins.
All the best

Agreed NL Christmas Vacation is quality. Elf ( for showing off picture & colour quality ) or Love Actually
( something for all ages ) are my shouts.
:smashin:
I don't think you can go wrong with Home Alone.

You could always show them the new remastered R1 HiDef Colorized version.
Though are you wanting to show off the Home Cinema, or be Christmassy, or both?

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
National Lampoons is a cracking idea - never thought of that one.
I wan't a family friendly one and as far as I remember that is (sure there is no nudity or such is there? - I remember brief nudity in European Vaction etc)

We watch this every year, classic.
Transformers!
The two 60 year olds will be asleep after the big Chrimbo lunch anyway, the four 30 year olds will be doing the washing up and drying up, leaving just the 17 and 10 year old who will be more than pleased to watch Transformers I'm guessing, together with the 40 year old who has offered to wash up, but the four 30 year olds have said go and relax  :rotfl:
Gremlins.
Scrooged. :smashin:
And maybe Die Hard.
That lot should keep all of 'em happy.

I watched the Polar Express on SD DVD a week ago with my nephews and my Father and I thought the picture and sound were fantastic. What surprised me though was the story was pretty good too. Fantastic animation.
It's now on HD discs. With Dolby Digital + it must sound fantastic. It sounded like the train was pulling up outside my house with normal 5.1 DD.
Highly recommended.

E T is always a good family blockbuster.
Jurassic Park also.

I believe Christmas Vacation is on next week. I will probably only watching Doctor Who this year. Any films I like that is on tv, I already have on DVD.
I have Blade Runner Final Cut and Transformers on DVD coming for Xmas.

Would'nt recommend Bad Santa for your Christmas Day entertainment. If you thought Billy Connolly or Roy Chubby Brown were bad when it comes to swearing then watch this. The children in the film have needed therapy ever since !
Mind you might be worth it if you fancy a laugh.

Planes Trains and Automobiles is actually quite Christmassy, but it never gets a Christmas mention.

Although not a Christmassy film but I think all the family can enjoy is one of Indiana Jones films preferably the first one.

It is quite Christmassy yes, although technically its ThanksGivingy
I think I'll probably give it another watch before Christmas because it does have that mood about it.

Lol, I thought that Thanksgiving was the American name for Christmas.
Put Hostel on, then you can get rid of all the freeloaders nice and early!

Have National Lampoons Christmas Vaction on its way, so its the choice for me this year.
Im sure the picture from a DVD that's from 1989 will probably be bad, but not too bothered with screen quality on Christmas Night, its all about the fun!

The picture quality is fine. Dvd's started off with the same picture quality that they have today.. probably better if you take into consideration that DVD's are now being knobbled to make HD look better.

Well finally got around to this thread again.
Watching National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and all laughed out loud for most of it, so it was a success. It has dated a bit, and not as hilarious as before, but still it was a great suggestion.
Thanks to all
