is mp3 playback dependent on h/u only

I want to get mp3 playback on my ICE; already got a 10CD Kenwood autochanger; for mp3 playback (ie so I can burn mp3s to CD and play em) do I need to change only the head unit or is it dependent on the CD changer as well?

IMO it's probably only the h/u?

I'm fairly sure that just changing you head unit will not work in the way you imagine it to.

The head unit would be what decodes the mp3's, but your changer will not be able to read a data CD.

I would suggest getting a Kenwood MP3 compatible headunit which will also allow you to use your changer. You then have a single shot, MP3 compatible HU and a standard 10 changer.

as i understand it , data on cds is made up of '0s' and '1s' and if you play a data cd on a music system , all you'll hear is a big screech ..ie it would read the data cd , but wouldnt be able to decode it ... will investigate further thumbs

The changer will need to be a MP3 player.
I run an Alpine CD headunit that is pre MP3's with a MP3 changer they work fine. So stricky speaking it's device that denotes the ability to play the format, but the headunit has to be able to control the device the decoding is done in the device.
