new to this and thought !'d done my reading!

I've just ordered a QNAPTS109 with 500Gb and was hoping that I could then wirelessly (through my D-link MIMO adsl wifi modem) connect a Slim Devices or Roku (their in my budget) to my Hifi without having my laptop switched on. Just re-reading the Slim devices and Roku website and think I've got this wrong i.e. my laptop will need to be switched on. This was not the only reason for buying the NAS but might look kinda silly with the missus having talked this up as being a great way to get rid of the CD clutter.

I can't speak for the Roku (since I don't own one) but you don't need your PC switch on to stream from your QNAP to your squeezebox. You obviously need to store your music and have slimserver installed on the QNAP for this tho ;)

This section is for video streamers. You need to go here:

for a dedicated section on music streamers.

AFAIK, if you have Slimserver running on your NAS, you don't need a PC or laptop turned on. Least, I didn't.

I can confirm also that you don't need your PC on to run Slimserver on your TS-109.
