First look at the poster;
Im a fan of Shyamalan's films, and look forward to this , hope the trailer comes out soon.
A paranoid thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity.
Zooey Deschanel, Mark Wahlberg, John Leguizamo

Hmmm....
The poster's what got me hooked on "Signs".
I learned then that......
He makes good posters.
Posters are no indication of final film worth.
A good indication of a film's quality is the director's immediate previous films.
This director's immediate previous films have been pitiful.
And the actor's...
And wasn't Mark Wahlberg SO GOOD in Planet Of The Apes!!
Therefore......
Ladies and Gentlemen.
I present.
We've Sensed It.
We've seen "Signs" (and those other ones that came after)
How it's Happening.... (again)
Another disappointing movie in the M Night Shalabangabingbong tradition.
:boring:

I've only seen these three.....
# 2.3 The Sixth Sense
# 2.4 Unbreakable
# 2.5 Signs
Didn't watch any of the others because of the reviews.. (See how sensitive I am to reviews.) Although I did make my own mind up about Unbreakable because it got bad reviews, but still sounded interesting to me by the description.
But I really like those three films that I mentioned. Can't go by a picture, but somehow it sounds exciting! :)
so far i think M. Night has made more good films than bad. I'd probably give 6th Sense 8/10, Unbreakable 8.5/10, Signs 7/10, The Village 6/10 and Lady In The Water 4/10
This one sounds interesting, but will he spoil it all by having the film lead up to a 'twist' that 90% of people have heard before they see the movie?
Or maybe the twist will be "global warming, it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING" which will probably be the best horror movie ending ever for the American audiences who probably haven't ever heard of it..

My guess is spoilered....
I think that the story of the reversing magnetic field (Actually happening!) is the scariest being as the magnetic field holds the sun's solar winds away from the Earth. But just guessing.

true the more recent films aren't as good, signs and the village have their moments but tend to spend the whole movie leading up to a twist which in the end disappoints
and lady in the water was apparently an adaptation of a bedtime story he wrote for his kids and boy does it show..

It's funny, I didn't like his first 3 movies that much. 6th Sense, Unbreakable and Signs. I enjoyed The Village and Lady In The Water far more. It's only because of his last 2 movies that I would even consider watching another one.
It seems that I don't like what his fans consider his best movies, and like what they consider his worse.

I've liked all of his films except for The Village...Lady in the Water got a rough ride because you went in expecting a different style of film. I thoroughly enjoyed Lady in the Water, as did my wife...but his best two have been Signs and 6th Sense. Looking forward to this next one.
Hmmm - I enjoyed Sixth Sense - I personally think Unbreakable is one of the best comic book films ever made without actually having a comic book - I quite enjoyed Signs, though it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be - The Village was OK, I got about 2/3 of the way through Lady In The Water - I will eventually finish it, but I must admit to thinking it was a tad boring and definitely his weakest of the bunch - I'm a little intrigued about this one though...

As per usual for movie there is a split for his movies, you like them or not,
most people like sixth sense. He says people should stop seeing past the twist (should there be one for this movie) and instead of waiting for it, enjoy the movie.
M. Night; ' The surprise for me is, I didn't have it in the last movie [Signs], and people think I did have it. That's the way stories come to me, they come to me very naturally like that. If this was a story about me and someone else, I would be withholding information about them immediately. The negative thing about the twist is that it's all people are occupied with; all the gentleness in the movie is being overshadowed by the flashy cousin in the sequined vest taking centre-stage.
I approach it as a novelist, in terms of saying: "I'm writing my next murder/mystery." Agatha Christie can write 30 of them, but this is a very different artform. I love my stories being multi-layered, and coming at it from different angles, so that you don't understand the film's true emotional motivation until the very end. It isn't about a plot reveal but the true emotional expression at the end of the picture'.

His movies have great trwists, but I enjoy the movies from the start. If only Stephen King could get his twists sorted out, he would write better books, and we would have much better movies. 'IT' was a great movie until the twist. Same with 'LANGOLIERS' Shyamalan is the Twist champion. (And that's not a dance routine!!!)

lol another Pincho comment that has made me smile lol
As to Might this will be as good and different as all of his other films I sorry so many of you feel that his film making as been so inconsistent but he is one of the few directors that will try something different to tell a story each time..
One of the best working directors out ther!!!

I really liked The Village, and liked the twist in it as well! Then again I new very little of his work before then, so wasn't expecting it as I've heard many people complain about. If you know something is coming, you sit and try to figure it out all through the movie instead of watching it.
Signs was weak though, in my opinion. This probably isn't helped by the spoofs scenes which have been made following it. And as for Sixth Sense, I've only seen a little of it, and you can't really watch it again once you know the twist!
So, I'll be looking forward to this, for what it's worth :D

I'm looking forward to this one. I know almost nothing about it and I'm going to try to keep it that way, better way to enjoy films in my view.
I have really enjoyed all of his past films, though this may be more to do with the fact i just get engrossed in films and enjoy the ride, i never even thought to try and figure out the twists to Signs or Village before or during the film.
I think i got more enjoyment out of those films than my friends who were constantly nudging me throughout the film to pass on their latest theory as to what would happen  and then complained at the end that it was a damp squib.
My Ratings:
Unbreakable 9
Sixth Sense 8.5
Signs 8
Lady in the Water 8
The Village 7

I will no doubt see this in the hope that he might have another good film in him, but I'm not holding my breath.
I liked The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable is the only film I've ever fallen asleep in the cinema whilst watching, Signs was overhyped and underdelivered, the Village twist was obvious after about 5 minutes and The Lady in the Water just dragged on and was dire.
Hopefully this one will be better.

The Sixth Sense was superb. Unbreakable was dull as dishwater and The Village had a twist?
He's made one very good film so that's one more than me. I'll give him his due for that but it would be great if he could come up with another.

Lady In The Water was a terrible movie. It was a pitiful effort. As was The Village and Signs. He's a hack.
Putting his name in front of his movies – as if it has stock in the first place – is pretentious and self-congratulatory, too.

Hi Brian,
I did enjoy The Sixth Sense! I thought Olivia Williams, Toni Collette, and Bruce Willis were great. And, to be fair to MNS, HJ Osment was well directed.
Since then, however....:thumbsdow

I can't fault 'Signs', I've watched it about 6 times. It is realistic compared with most horrors.. in a similar way to Cloverfield, but without the hand-held. the twists at the end are practically impossible to guess.

Didn't like Signs at all.
So aliens who are burned by water invade a planet that's full of it? It would be like us choosing to invade a planet where it regularly rains sulphuric acid and where most people on the planet has it piped to their house. Would you fear a race that you can defeat with a hose pipe or a cup of water? So why would aliens smart enough to cross the galaxy not figure this out and go somewhere else?
true, and i would imagine in reality, the aliens would have died just by being here since a fair amount of the air around us contains water as well it was a fun film though

Interesting to note its brought to you by the director of Sixth Sense and Signs (has he now decided to cut the umbilical code from Unbreakable, The Village (which oddly I liked) and Lady in the Water).. Looks moody and has that Night pace feel to it.. Whos the cinematographer, I missed it they flashed by too quickly and apple wont allow me to save its HD trailers without going pro.. come back stage6 please

Why do you say he has decided to cut the umbilical code (cord) from his other films?, this will still have his stamp, look and feel of his previous films, its just another story for him, are you implying there are no ghosts, creatures in this?.
Cinematography is by Tak Fujimoto, he did Signs, Sixth Sense and his earlier works include Badlands and Death Race 2000.
There is a bigger poster image at the start of this thread. And can you not right click to download the link above for the trailer?.

by cutting the umbilical cord i was simply referring to the marketing on the trailer :) reading through the rest of this thread I would rate his films as Sixth sense, ok 7/10 - Signs, didnt work for me but some good tension 6/10 - Unbreakable - works in some places but a little 2d performance wise 6/10 - The Village, very good and stunning performances but ruined by playing on its denoument way too early 7.5/10- Have to admit to not having bothered with lady in the water, perhaps i'll rent it this week and give it a go..

I have just done a search on this movie after seeing the trailer on Iron Man at the weekend. A poster on another forum claims to have read a test screening review, or a script review, and the plot of the movie is the following...
*** BIG SPOILER ALERT ***
(warning this is "potentially" really gonna give the game away so only read on if you want to know what it is)
apparently the planet is getting revenge on humanity for poisoning and polluting it by releasing particles into the air that causes humans to kill themselves.
Sounds very interesting if true!

I'm not reading it. The best part of his films are the parts that you don't know about.
If the spoiler is the actual script, then what a crap film this will be. I have been severely dissapointed with M Night's films, apart from the first one, The Sixth Sense.
I felt cheated after watching each one. The endings have been terrible, as though I wasted my entire time watching the films, so I expect nothing better from this one.
Note: Can't stand Wahlberg by the way. He thinks he's hard, but would get his ass kicked in real life.

Seems I'm in the minority as I really enjoyed The Village & Signs. Had The 6th Sense ruined for me and have seen that many clips over the years I've probably seen the film, even if I haven't sat down and actually watched it from start to finish. Also enjoyed Unbreakable, which had a good feel to it.
Annoys me when I read comments like 'sussed it in the first 5 mins'. Yeah right.

I've loved most of his work, in fact, Lady In The Water was my fave.
Sixth Sense would have been the best for me, but unfortunately, I worked out the ending about a third of the way through, and this was before I knew of his reputation of having twists.
In fact, I've ignored the temptation to try and work out any twists, and hence have enjoyed his films much more. His characterisation is fabulous, and Lady In The Water has some very moving and entertaining moments with the characters, and the score, it was awesome. One of my favourite soundtracks of any movie.
I agree with what he said, that people waste so much time looking for a twist, they forget to sit back, relax and enjoy the movie for what it is.

Spoiler free review
Just seen this tonight - after all the negative reviews i was not expecting much, it was not his best work by a mile but i liked it, it plays out like a b-movie, whether that was intentional i dont know.
We've seen the trailer, so just what is happening to the people in The Happening, why are they dying? That premise alone made me intrigued to see this film. But oddly i still found it touching in the way Shyamalan showed the death of man in a very simplistic manner that made it even more chilling.
The script was simple in terms of line delivery, the direction of the actors looking at the camera did not work. We all know Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel (Zooey looks great btw) are capable of much more. John Leguizamo is wasted in the film.
It was not a bad film in the sense it was never boring and i found it gripping when events were happening in the cities. The ending was too plain, and i think they struggled to think of an alternative, i would for such a premise.
If this was a small indie film by an unknown director, i think it was be better recieved, that fact its by a higher calibre one makes its disappointing. Im a big fan of M.Night, and liked 'Lady', i like his style of film making, and its still better than most average films. 6.8/10.

This is a really really bad movie and has confirmed what I have always thought. His only decent film is his first one and the only one have re-watched a number of times. I will not be watching The Happening again. The trailer made the film a lot better than it was.
I just came back from watching this and have to say it is awful. It keeps you interested but some of the acting is just wooden.Alot of it just doesn't seem to make sense. The woman in the house near the end!!, What's all that about?
As usual with his film, the best bits of the entire film are in the trailers.
Lady in the water was one of THE WORST film I've had the misfortune of seeing.I pretty much watched it on fast forward, so drawn out and pointless.
Anyway I would save your money and go watch something decent.
4/10

Saw this yesterday and have to say the only redeeming feature in the entire movie was Zooey Deschanel.
Mark Whalberg was completly wooden, unconvincing and had a constantly surprised dumb expression on his face for the entire movie, and as someone said previously Leguizamo was wasted. The script was stilted and the delivery was very uncomfortable.
Now usually Shamalangabingbongs twists are very entertaining and interesting but this one was just a flat squib that was in no way exciting at all.
No where near the highs of Unbreakable and completly fogettable
1 out of 10 :thumbsdow(and that 1 is only given because of Zooey)
Very disapointing and I was so looking forward to it, it could have been so much better. At least there wasnt one of his usual unconvincing cameos again.

Another case of the trailer looking better than the actual film? This gets critically panned, but i've never took much notice of them anyhoo,i'll make my own mind up.

The mic you saw should have been covered by the cinema screen masking system. Looks like a case of poor 'showmanship' on the part of the projectionist, he/she should have adjusted the film in the projector to compensate.
Having seen the film last night, i thought it was quite tense all the way through i have to say. Not ashamed to also admit that i did nearly throw my popcorn over the person in front at one point:blush:

I have enjoyed, to one degree or another, all of M Night's movies.
This one was no exception until the end...I found the last 15 minutes/the ending awful and it spoilt the movie for me. It felt like he ran out of ideas.
I don't normally jump during movies, but this one made me jump on a couple of occassions. The lamp post scene was

Quite right! it was like watching a modern fairytale, you have to admit that he's films are very different, there are no other directors out there doing what he does, whether you like it or loath it. The best way to watch his films are without any expectations or too much prior knowledge, then your in for a treat.
I watched signs on DVD not knowing what it was about or who had made it and was blown away. Likewise the village was a very entertaining film. Oddly enough its the sixth sense that he most tries to distance himself from.
I thought when i saw the trailer for this, it might have been an adaptation of Stephen Kings 'Cell'
Looking forward to seeing it

What finally made me feel this movie is a clunker was hearing that because the threat to humanity was airborne, released via spores from plants, characters run from the wind . That is too ridiculous to think about even for a second.

Most of his movies have ridulous plots if you sit down and really think about them, but still doesn't make them any less entertaining.
Personally I thought the Village was pretty good and bar the ending I enjoyed the Happening too.
Signs is still my favourite though.
Lady in the Water is my favorite:thumbsup:

ditto. Signs has a great emotional heart from mel's side of the story, and the tension is at boiling point at the house when it all kicks off.

I have to admit having avoided this one like the plague because of reviews, but once I finally sat down and watched it on dvd i was pleasantly surprised as to how decent it was

The mic you saw should have been covered by the cinema screen masking system. Looks like a case of poor 'showmanship' on the part of the projectionist, he/she should have adjusted the film in the projector to compensate.
Everone keeps saying it's down to the projection, but there have been SO many people commenting on it, how can it always be the projection? All you have to do is google 'Happening boom mic' to find out.
I've been going to my cinema for 10 years and i've never seen a mic bob in before. Seems a bit of a coincidence that projectionist's all over the world have become crap everytime the happening is on?!!?

Watched this last night and I'm sure the audience wanted to become extras in the film.
It was AWFUL. This has to be the WORST film I have ever seen. I cannot think of anything else that comes near. After seeing this I think Bev Hills Cop 3 is Amazing.
I read the reviews and never let them stop me from watching a film as they aren't always right but this is REALLY THAT BAD.
From the girl in the park from the very first second to the end of the film it is BAD.
Ok there are some funny parts but these are meant to be serious. The film has NO REASON but to waste your time and maybe suggest a few ways of ending it.
I thought the acting in Eastenders was bad, this is another few levels.
Spoilers:
Why when everyone else is speeding away in their cars do these strangers wait for the main characters to have their chat?
Why drive a jeep so slowly then only notice hanging bodies just at the moment you are almost underneath them?
When everyone is suggesting that it may be the trees/plants why go into the country and go through fields
Why make this piece of shaite?
:lease:TRUST ME, IF YOU NEED TO SEE IT WAIT FOR IT TO BE ON TV, then you can switch it off without feeling you've wasted your money.
I enjoyed Sixth sense, Unbreakable and on overall enjoyed Signs (although I thought Mel Gibson was badly cast)
The Village was poor and I haven't seen anything else BUT this is AWFUL. The old B movies did this sort of story much better.
I went to see Indy Jones after and I think this film messed up my enjoyment of that.

this was really dissapointing, pathetic story and very bad acting, marky mark delivered all his lines in one monotone voice, no emotion or acting at all, i thought it might of been intentional it was so bad.
night has had his day:rotfl:

I've found that most people in M Knight's films deliver their lines this way.

Went to see this yesterday, im a Shyamalan fan, but even i found it hard to defend this one.
Mark whalburg's acting was dire, the bit in the classroom at the start was just awful, i was actually cringing.
The story was so so, but it was a little under developed, left me wanting more, feeling unfulfilled.
Miss:thumbsdow
I got around to seeing this today. Oh dear is all I can say.
Although, for me, it did bring up one very important comentary on today's society, namely Hotdogs do get a bad rep, despite their cool shape I feel this needs addressing.

You mean like a decent plot, script, and dialogue that actually sounded like real people speak ?
"There appears to be an event happening."
"They've gone off to the town of Princeton"
Nobody speaks like that !

You'd think some of the actors would have mentioned that on set. The scene in the classroom is another where the dialogue along with the acting was unbelievable poor.
Although there isn't one scene that is ok. That soldier!!!!!!:suicide:
Hey this little green guys acting was better.
The scene in the diner is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.
"Whatever is happening, it's not happening 90 miles from here!"
And the way the room clears in a couple of seconds is just priceless.
Nobody stopped and thought "Yeah, he's right" or planned exactly where they were going...
Plus, what happened to the train passengers? I assumed they'd gone to the diner, which was why it was so busy. But nobody except Marky Mark was left behind, everyone had just jumped in the cars and left.
I would suggest people go and see it just for the comedy value but I wouldn't want the increase in box office numbers to encourage M. Night into making more movies. :god:

Went to see this film last night.
Well thank god i have a Cinema pass and it did not cost me £7 to see it.
It started well but then just went downhill.
I was confused, was it supposed to be a thriller, a black comedy or a horror ?
I have read a few reviews on this and people have slated it and then people have said if you did not like it then you did not get it
What was there to get ?
Was there a moral in it all ?
By the end of it i personally did not care if they all died
The acting was poor or was it supposed to be like that ?
Was it made to make you think ?
It left you with quite a few questions which in some films is great but i did not care about the questions left or how it was all " Happening "
Ok so it was original but it was a poo original film or like other people have said maybe i just didnt get it !
A 3 out of 10 from me :thumbsdow

All I can say is, thank gawd for torrents...
I would hate to have paid money to see this film..!
I'm fairly opened minded and can give a film a chance on differentlevels...good sound..good effects...direction etc.
But this was just totally and utterly pants on every single level...simply can't believe thatthis twaddle was from the same guy that made sixth sense/signs etc....beggars belief.
Avoid at all costs...or...wait for it to turn up on sky movies gold extra +1...and fast fwd through it with Sky+

I'm amazed anyone gives it higher than Zero!!
It does have a message but the film is so bad it makes you ignore it.
My understanding of the message was (spoiler for those who haven't seen it, although PLEASE don't pay to see it!!) We need to stop polluting the planet as we will suffer from it.

I feel like I have lost some time of my life I can never get back... thank god it was only one hour 20 mins and not any more.
Terrible acting.. nonexistent plot... nothing really happens and then it ends. I'll be amazed if he ever gets funding for another movie.
