Hi all
Ive got a Alfa 156 and am thinking of upgrading the front door panel speakers, the standard speakers in the car are 17cm jobbies but I also have some built in tweeters in the upper door section..

What would be the best route to go - could i leave the tweeters and just upgrade the main speakers, or go component for each side. If I go component would i need to add an Amp ?.

Clarion headunit, about 4 x 45w i think.

Cheers
Zef

Upgrade both tweeters and front mid speakers for a better set of matching components, BUT only if they are genuinaly crap factory fitted kit. If the mid woofers are 2 way speakers and not part of a component set, the same about quality applies IMO.

Otherwise get a nice 4 channel amp and run this from the pre-outs from the Clarion. Run all speakers from the amp and none from the H/U. Amps give you much better improvement than new speakers at a given price level. :smashin:

thanks nobber - the only thing is rigging up the amp - The main thing is a power, ground and switch - I dont really want to fish around for a connection for these....

What i really need is a splitter cable that connects to my cars DIN plug then goes to amp (and speakers) and my Head unit... does this exist ?.

Hi Zef

I'm not too sure what exactly it is you want to do?? I am only a user, not an installer, but all that is needed for the amp's power is a car audio type power lead to your car battery. It's discrete, it works really well and most amps have an auto on/off when you power up the radio.

As for a splitter cable from the DIN?? You need a phono lead from the back of the H/U (preouts) to the phono input on the amp.

If you are talking about splitting power between the h/u and amp using what is supplied to the h/u already- don't IMO. Use a seperate thick-guage power lead from the battery to the amp alone: more current = more efficient amp = better sound.

Send PM to backtothefuture or toomanyhobbies (if they don't mind me suggesting it:blush: ) - both appear to be installers with loads of experience. Alternatively drive to your nearest pro installer or even Halfords and ask them to guide you. Good luck.
