Is there a PAL Calibration DVD available as from what I can see the Avia disc is mainly NTSC only. Availability, links.,etc.
Also has anyone recorded there service menu settings for a Panny 32PL1?
Is the THX optimizer any use ? It's basic but R2.
I found the THX optimizer good enough for me.:smashin:
Only DVD's I've got it on are Star Wars I & II and Monsters Inc but there must be loads more.

Sorry guys, the THX optimizers are disc specific - ie if you set up for Monsters Inc you won't have the correct levels for Attack of the Clones etc, they are not a general one setting suits all.
I find that a little silly.
Heh - you got 5 minutes to set up your TV EVERYTIME you watch this film! :rotfl:
The THX optimizer looks like a standard set of tests seeing as THX is a standard! :lesson:

Sorry mate...
That would make sense but it's not the case. Try it yourself, I have to increase my rears by 2dB acc to The Phantom Menace compared with amp test tones, which are OK for T2, down by 1dB on another disc etc, etc...
Have a look on the THX website www.thx.com/mod/products/dvd.html#optimizer
The optimiser is set according to the mastering process, not the film is mastered to the optimiser. Ideally all mastering of films should be equal, as you point out THX is a standard. However the experience of myself and others on the forum (do a search) shows the discrepancy between different films.
Get your SPL meter out and try calibrating using your test tones and different discs with the optimizer, you could be surprised at the variation in figures you obtain!
I stand corrected. :)
I should really read the small print :nono:
It seems a little silly to me - that bloody Lucas & his perfectionism. I suppose he can afford a different system for each film he watches!!
