Well i intend on buying the playstaion 3 to go with my new sony bravia tv for gaming and blueray movies but i also want to buy a D Link DSM 330 for streaming my movies xvid/divx and music etc from my laptop hardrive to my hdtv.

My question is do i really need them both or will the playstation 3 do just as good a job for streaming my media from my computer to my tv?

I don't want to waste money buying the dsm 330 if the playstation will do the same thing as a streamer??

I dont really see the need for both, i guess it comes down to which has the best UI experience. I would personally not bother, sees like overkill to me i think. If you use www.TVersity.com you will be able to stream Divx etc to the PS3. Unless i am missing something about the D-Link?

I agree with this post. I wouldn't buy that because for me, it would seem like a waste of money as the PS3 is easily capable of playing these formats and the picture certainly won't be any better. I believe the PS3 now officially supports Divx so you can even copy Divx files on to the PS3 hard drive. Also, download PS3 Video 9 from www.redkawa.com. This is a tool used to convert video formats playable on the PS3. You would then use Media Centre X (also available from this site) to copy the converted file to the PS3 hard drive, or alternatively, you could just stream it.

I don't think the PS3 supports Divx just yet, though not far off hopefully!

Next firmware update, or has that been released already?

Some websites are inaccurately reporting that the PS3 is capable of Divx now, but I think that's a misinterpretation of Divx's CEO assertion that an agreement has been made.

Yep, firming up all the time, but still not actually available yet.
