Just Ordered

They say I can get between 8 and 16 mb/s connection. Is there any way I can find out what I'll be getting?

Re: Just Ordered

If you have an existing ADSL service use the 2nd link in my sig to get an estimate. Use the 3rd link if you need help obtaing your line stats to use with the estimator.

If your service provider uses ADSL2+ we estimate you may manage line speeds of:21102Kbps

With ADSL2+ the maximum IP throughput is likely to be around:18674Kbps
So I should get the full 16mb? Sounds good.

Re: Just Ordered

I'd say you would have a very good chance of getting 16Mb and certainly no lower than 12Mb.

Re: Just Ordered

14 is the minimum I'd expect from those stats, most likely 16, not so much more potential that you'd be better off with a 24 supplier - you'll get the absolute maximum value from your ten pounds a month is certain - let me know if you have any trouble getting them to actually put you on ADSL2+ fastpath, as I'm days away from reporting them to ofcom, ASA, trading standards and watchdog for refusing to change my line grading despite paying for "upto 16 meg".....

Re: Just Ordered

Is that speed taken from a speedtest or is it the line speed reported by your router? The actual real life IP throughput speed will usually be approx 20% lower than the line sync speed due to overheads.

Re: Just Ordered

Then your sync rate is around 14Mb. The estimates given above were based on sync rate, not throughput. 14Mb is pretty good for your stats. You could try connecting to the test port hidden behind the mastersocket faceplate to see if that increases sync. You could also try tweeking to see if throughput can be improved with tools like TCP optimizer/Dr TCP http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

Re: Just Ordered

Having loads of problems so far. For the first week I was getting consistantly 12mb (which wasn't as good as I'd hoped but OK). Now in the last 2 days I have had loads of disconnections (every 10 mins or so) as well as the phone not working (seems to be at the same time as the net gets disconnected)BT said there was no problem with the line so I phoned Sky. They are telling me various things which all seem to be a stab in dark at resolving the problem. Now not only am I getting the disconnection problems but my download speed is well under 5mb. Anyone please help?
