Car audio - I thought Home Cinema was bad

Well here is my prediciment. Have just got new motor - needs new ICE. My plan is for a new H/U, Components at the front, SUb in the boot, Amp running the SUb + front Components. God there is sooo much choice. Im after quality over Loudness. Plus dont want to spend an awfal amount of money. So far I have narrowed doen the Head Unit to either of these two

Rockford Fosgate RFX9000 - £199.99

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/shop/acatalog/rfx9000.jpg

Panasonic CQ-DFX572 - £189.99

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/shop/acatalog/cqdfx572.jpg

Any comments on either?

And these Components, Magnat Bullpower 213

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/shop/acatalog/bullpower213.jpg

Are these any good?

Also any ideas / suggestions on Amp + Sub would be gratfully recieved.

Sorry for the long post :p

For an amp, i'd take a look at the Maystar brand.I've found them to be very under rated ( easpecially the older models ) and are better value for money than the Jap offerings. You don't indicate a budget so i may be wide of the mark, but for subs you gota look at this chap (http://www.adireaudio.com/mobile_audio/drivers/brahma_series.htm) .

My budget is £500 MAX - but would love it to be less :o)

Have seen this sub

Rockford Fosgate RFZ3410 - £59.99

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/shop/acatalog/rfz2410.jpg

So at a guess id be spending

200 h/u
50 compc
60 sub
which leave 190 for amp / box / cables.....

Get your cables etc from CPC (http://www.cpc.co.uk) . Don't pay inflated prices. Also have a look at Blaupunkt (http://www.bluespot.co.uk/) h/u's.

Blaupunkt h/u's. dont get the juices flowing in the look dept.

Was thinking of getting a Stinger cable kit. Not a good idea?

I'd be tempted with a JVC KDSH55RB (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/shop/acatalog/CAD_Hot_Deals_104.html)

Not bad for the price :-)

If it was silver maybe - but iff you had to choose between the 2 above what would you go for?

CPC (http://custom1.farnell.com/cpc/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CPC+Catalogue&product%5Fid=CP0223166) also appear to have those speakers. The Stinger kits (http://custom1.farnell.com/cpc/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CPC+Catalogue&product%5Fid=CP0224566) start at £18.75.

Buy a copy of Max Power - no not to look at the cars or women.

There are loads of deals in the back pages for decent amps and subs for approx £150

i.e www.hendoncarstereo.co.uk have a Alpine sub and amp £154

this is a couple of months ago but good value

Well I have now fitted the front components and new head unit.

Now I am stuck. I am going to get a 4 channle amp to fit under the passenger seat. My dilema is this. Sub or rear speakers. I don't really want to lose my boot space. Could i get decent tight base from a set of rears?

Don't want 6x9s cause I feel there rubbish. Which leaves me with 6.5 coaxals....

So any ideas?

There is no dilema ... a sub is not an accessory. :)

Hi Oblivion

Don't go for rear speakers, get a decent sub (maybe a Rockford or something)
And why not get a stealthboxz that you mentioned to me about before.

Just a few questions for ya :)
Also how do the new Magnats sound? What size are they?
Is the tweeter in the picture the original position of the oe tweeter?
Are they a massive improvement over the oe speakers?
Are they directly connected to h/u or amped up?

I intend to do the same thing with my car as you know and seeing as Saxos are in effect a Pug 106 and I have a 206 I assume the build quality of the door is just the same and therefore the sound from the components will be similar apart from the cabin space in my car is bigger.

Hiya JS - was concidering a stealth box - but a £150 for a sub box is a bit much for my wallet.

In answer to your questions

The Magnets are 5 1/2 and they sound very good.

No the tweater in the picture had to be fitted by me. Which ment taking off the door panel and drilling a new hole

yes a massive improvement - sounds is far far better and beacause of the tweater clarity is vastly improved.

At the moment they are connected directly to the H/U but will be connected to and Amp when I get one.

hope this helps

heh, thats like saying kenwood has more experiance making amps than lexicon, parasound etc heh.. (home cinema)

tbh i wouldnt buy a panasonic, i have never been a fan of thier sound/build qual, but plenty of ppl buy them so heh.. though lately the quality of all the makes of headunit on the market are poor. alpine used to churn out some amazing headunits, but they have gone the same way as pioneer, kenwood pana etc etc.. "knock em out quick, prettier than the one before at half the cost" etc. shame

personally i dont like 4way amps they are okish when running 4 speakers but when they are tri moded lets them down badly.. having a main crossover (symmetry epx2 was my fav) and seperate amps for seperate jobs was the way i always preffered. i always found the x-overs in the 4ways to be crap, unless you buy one £600 +.

i supposed the nearest example in home cinema would be a mc12 with the suitable amount of brystons (or whatever) to power your speakers seperatly.

out of interest why a stealth box?? they will still hangout into the boot, maybe not as much as a normal one. this also gives you hassle when chosing a sub for it, as generally they have a very small cubic volume.. you could buy a normal box, and just remove if when you want to load up your boot, and you said yourself your a bit tight for money. there are plenty of packages around amp+sub inc box @ not alot of money even for a quality brand. ok this box will not be 100% correct for the sub, but will do the job. any custom size box will cost near to a stealth anyways.
they are very easy to make though. well so long as you know how to use a jigsaw hehe, if you find a sub you want and need advice building the box, drop me a line before feb 25th and ill help you out

Cheers for the advice Dave :smashin:

Ok Im still going to to the 4 channel route. Having the sub amped and the components still running from the H/U seems a waste... Am I wrong though???

Have seen a MB Quart DWC 204 for £60, which is an 8 inch sub. Will this be ok for tight punchy base?

According to MB Quarts Website the 8" is recomended to have a 0.5cf sealed enclosure

4chans work, depends on how picky you are ;)

8inch subs, hmmm. they are "ok" but after a month or so, youll be wanting more from it. they dont have an amazing amount of depth which is what lets them down. i have a 8inch kicker tube in my loft somewhere.. added warmth to the sound but nothing amazing. a 10inch sub would be a much better choice.

btw you can get 2 x 2channel amps for £200 which will sound great (not sure on your amp budget)
