Anybody tried it, is it worth the money?

I havn't personally used it, but many people SWEAR by it!

I've been recommended it many times when asking about calibrating my system.

Steve Smallcombe is no -ones fool. I believe his methods are solid and that a valid increase in contrast and linearity will be achieved if you do a smart calibration. It doesn't get the greyscale to track at the correct temperature though. afaik. To do that you need a colour analyser as well.

I will be going to see a couple of forum members, hopefully next week, to calibrate their Sony LCD's. We will be using CCR filters and on at least one of them I'll do a non filter cal and a flitered cal so comparisons can be made. I am sure they will post the findings after I've gone.

Hi Gordon,

It'll will be interesting to see what you can acheive, I've just got the HS10 myself, is that what you'll be calibrating?

If its me Gordon is referring to I have a VW10HT without a filter but hoping to obtain a filter.

My neighbor has a VW11HT with a CC-40R filter.

its both these we having calibrated

Indeed it is Grahams. My first filtered play around so it should be interesting .....

Ahh err Gordon, I didnt know you travelled to do calibrations, is this a one off or a regular part of your work?

I have a 11HT and feel it could do with both filter and calibration.

Matt........

P.S I am considering getting a RGB to component converter and some 10 metre leads in the future. Would calibrating the pj be fruitless prior to doing this or would the calibration still be correct if I change the signal from S-Video to Component.
( I know if you change the Sky box from RGB to Pal the colours etc change dramatically)

I left StereoStereo to do calibrations full-time. I now find that I have to split this 50/50 between calibrations and the start of the distribution side of Convergent and my installation service.

I travel throughout the UK calibrating CRT projectors, LCD/DLP. Plasma, direct view CRT and the occasional rear projector as well.
If you want pricing for my services please email me at convergent as I find it hard to keep track of everything on PM or the forums.

Ta,

Gordon

All I can say is wow! We briefly watched Spider man (R4 PAL Progressive) after Gordon had calibrated it, and I was well impressed by the picture quality.

I had previously set the PJ up with a Sony CX850 PAL player using s-Video utilising Video Essentials. Gordon set it up with Van Damme component cable, Denon 3800 and with/without CCr30 filter.

Gordon, I'm sure you can present a better description of the calibration than I ever could.

Gordon

Is there any chance that we can get an idea of the costs involved for your calibration, as I have not got a clue £10 or £1000.

It wouls just be nice to get an idea

Cheers

Ben

Gordon is an advertiser on the boards, so if you click on his advertisement and send him an email from there.

I'd certainly recommend him

Is this kind of calibration a one-off event, or do projectors 'drift' over time?

Regards

Well Graham and Dirk's were interesting. I will post more later as I have had a long day. ISF cal on front projection depends on sources and scan rates and display device itself. It can be from £200 plus share of travel and accom upwards.... When it's getting excessive I charge a daily rate. This excludes the filters that Graham and Dirk bought themsleves.
