Home projector calibration

hey there everyone, anyone know of a good and cheap pro who can visit your home and calibrate my Sim2 DMF projector in the london area? And will it make alot of difference as I already use avia (but not that well?).

Its the color balance I mainly need doing.

slightly off topic, but did anyone see Home Front last week? They had a SIM (don't know which but assume a Sim2) for projecting blobs into the garden for parties.

I thought it was slightly over-egging the pudding!

how about this question - has anyone around here used a professional to setup this projector and has the results been obvious afterwards?

My 2cents.

If you can't tune your system via AVIA to get a better picture you won't notice a better picture having a pro do it.

Try the simple THX tuning program thats included with Disney movies (Monsters Inc) or Fight Club.

I've found that the THX optimode seems to suit the DVD that it is on, and won't necessarily work to set up the pj for other DVDs. Strange but true...

Avia is good, and I saw a Sim2 HT200DMF today which had been set up and the picture was excellent.

Compared to an Infocus X1, NEC HT1000 and Sharp Z90, it had the better image. Using Avia showed that it resolved more detail in the resolution tests, which surprised me, considering it only has 848 x 480 (and 800 x 600) resolution.

The HT1000 was nearest to it in performance though.

What aren't you happy about with the image?

There are other Sim owners here, so maybe they could post their figures so that you could at least get into the ball park so to speak. The sharpness setting on some pjs seemed to make quite a difference (lowering it), so try that setting if you haven't already - it tends to reduce the harshness of the image on some pjs.
