What HD DVD player ???

Hey guys,

Just bought the new Samsung LE40F86 and need a HD DVD player to go with it..

Bought myself the HD DVD add-on for the xbox 360 but that is too loud (or so the missus says) so going off to buy a seperate player instead.

Can anyone recommend one ?? Whats the Samsung HD 870 like ???

It is not an HD DVD player but a 'plain' DVD player. Try one of the cheap Toshiba HD DVD players like the E1 or the new 30.

sorry mate, dont know what you mean : 'plain' .. i didn't think 'plain' dvd players played HD movies..could explain abit more ?? new to all this..

I want something that is 1080p compatible as my panel can handle that - does that make a difference in the choice ??

HD DVD player often get 'confused' with DVD 'upscalers' which is what the 870 is. This is NOT capable of playing any HD DVDs and has non of the benefits of the higher native resolution or the new audio and video codecs. Upscalers or any DVD player just does SD (Standard Dfinition) DVD, or 'plain' DVD. THERE IS QUITE A DIFFERENCE. However the good news is proper HD DVD players are now very affordable.
