Has anyone seen a worse installation than this.
This was "installed" at my brother neighbours in Essex on the 13th of October 2007. She's an old lady and not quite all there. They left cables lose on the roof and broke bricks with their drilling. The main dish bracket was only secured by 3 screws and a cable inside goes across a doorway !
He's taking it up with Sky on her behalf.
Has anyone seen anything worse than this ?

Re: Has anyone seem a worse installation than this.
If I were her, I'd 'trip up' over that one in the doorway, and sue them.

By the looks of the first picture, that'll last about 5 minutes once it rains. No waterproofing/tape on the LNB connections!

Re: Has anyone seem a worse installation than this.
Amazing. That will last a few minutes in high wind and Sky will be out to fix it at a cost no doubt to the lady.
She will trip on that doorway "installation".
No water proofing on the connections.
Loose cables on the roof
Dish looks insecure and therefore may move effecting the signal quality
Take these photos and get them off to Sky ASAP. Was this a proper Sky install or a third party?
Still,at least she got black coax. I got bright white, three lots of it (SKy HD and standard installation) going around my house. Looks an eye sore because its so bright. I asked for Black but they didnt have it in the van!

Re: Has anyone seem a worse installation than this.
It was a 3rd party install. Sky have stated they will only deal with complaints in writing, they did try to sell my brother a package whilst he was trying to complain though
Sky are sending someone out on Friday to assess the install and we'll see what happens from there.

Re: Has anyone seem a worse installation than this.
Wow, what a mess. I have come across a few nasty installations but don't recall one that bad.
Everybody knows these subbies get too much work piled onto them. What I dont understand though is that it's often quicker to do a neater job.
I.e. In this instance if he had clipped all 3 cables next to eachother he could of used double clips for two of them which not only looks neater but will require him to spend less time hammering in clips.
The doorway cable is inexcusable. Is it coax or black phone cable?
How have the phone cables been run?
Would you mind if I used these images on my companies website as I have a rogue work gallery?

And the 3 dish bracket bolts go into mortar instead of brick!

Re: Has anyone seem a worse installation than this.
Just noticed how close he was to hitting that mains cable! I would check to see the cable hasn't been damaged.

Re: Has anyone seem a worse installation than this.
I live next door to her and I was so mad at them i've sent a complaint off to Trading Standards
I also sent this to SKY.
Customer Relations Department
Sky Subscriptions Services ltd
PO Box 43
Livingston
West Lothian
EH54 7DD
Dear Sir or Madam.
I Wish to make a formal complaint on behalf of Jackie of no: ** Flint Close, Basildon, Essex. SKY customer ref:
I live on the same Terraced Houses to Jackie and I was woken up buy drilling and banging at 7:20 am on Saturday the 13 of October 2007. Jackie was having her Sky installed by to young men who did a terrible job of the installation and I feel took advantage of her elderly state as she was too afraid to complain. They left cables lose on the roof and broke bricks with their careless drilling. Also the main dish bracket was only secured by 3 screws. All of these incidents I’m sure constitute a serious breach of health and safety.
I have included Photos of the substandard work and the state they left it in.
Jackie and the other resident of Flint Close would like this installation redone by professional as soon as possible.
Regards.

Re: Has anyone seen a worse installation than this.
Sky should be ashamed off themselves. They should take responsibility for there actions in sending these cowboys round. Get in touch with watchdog, trading standards the local papers her mp the lot. These "installers" should not be allowed near people's property's

Re: Has anyone seen a worse installation than this.
I though t i would mention the external phone cable, Sky rules state you are only allowed to have 1 metre of external phone cable inside too...
Thats a pants install i guess it was AVC or Custom???

That's not just a Sky "rule". The external cable I have always been led to believe has a poisin in (rats chew cables...and die).
So if there was a fire and the cable melted, toxic fumes would be released.
Now I expect in an old house lots of materials are toxic etc. In a new house though this is not the case and a lot of products are designed with things like this in mind.
Despite all of this it's just not done and almost always white cable looks better inside.

Re: Has anyone seen a worse installation than this.
I sent a complaint to this email address
james.murdoch@bskyb.com
And got this back!
Dear Mr Walker
Thanks for your email addressed to James Murdoch, which has been passed to me to investigate and respond no his behalf.
I can advise that our business partner, AVC, have accepted liability for the damage and poor cabling and a visit has been arranged with the customer for Friday. Our Claims team will be following this up with AVC to ensure that everything went smoothly and to the customer's satisfaction.
If Miss Mallett needs any further assistance, I will be more than happy to assist.
Kind regards
Jacqueline McCue

Re: Has anyone seen a worse installation than this.
That's the trouble now - most of the best installers have gone independant just leaving novices or subbies who are just so pee'd off with the low pay. If this job was a Sky+ and extra box install then you may find it incredulous to know that they only got paid £35 for the install !! Out of this they pay for all the cable, fuel etc.
The dish should have been put onto a pole on the other side of the house as cables over the roof seldom last more than a few years.
I doubt the black telephone cable is external grade, my money is on it just being black internal telephone wire. Installers are not allowed to trail across a doorway like that, it had to go over the door frame. External cable cannot be on show inside as much as internnal cable must not be used outside.
As for 3 bolts in the mortar - that is a strict no no. They probably aren't even aware that the LNB has a pull down rain cover!
These shoddy type installs will always happen with big contract companies like AVC and they won't go away until Sky start contracting direct to reputable independant installers. My advise to anyone is GO INDEPENDANT
Cheers, Franc
