Sharing Files and Folders accross network

Hi Everyone,

Please can someone help me out.

My desktop PC is currently hardwired to the Netgear router. It runs Widows XP standard edition.

I have a wireless enabled laptop which connects to the router wirelessly. It runs on MS Vista Home Premium.

The problem is that I think I have incorrectly configured my network that could have introduced vulnerabilities into my system.

I can now view the folders on the Laptop but am concerned that the public folder is displayed outwith the Local Network area and is showing under internet. See attached for what I mean.

The next problem is that what I want to do is make an external hard drive connected via USB to my Desktop stream audio and video over the wireless network, but the laptop does not seem to have discovered my PC. Perhaps I need to run streaming software such as Zune or such like?
