cheapish decoder

hi all, im in need of a DD and DTS decoder that wont break the bank. It only needs to decode DD and DTS, it doesnt need an in built amlifier as my brother is brewing his own home built one. just need the decoder bit. Needs to accept optical and coax and output 6 channels (5.1) or more.
thanks

Cheapest your going to find is probably the Yamaha DSP 800, though this has three channels of amplification for centre and rears.
Even low end processors (totally without amplification) start at around £900. If that seems reasonable then Rotel or Cyrus are probably your best bet.
TBH Your best bet is a cheap AV amp with pre-outs - forget the internal amplifcation and use it as a processor.

Best look for a Technics one that was around a couple years ago. It did DD and dts, maybe even DPL. Should be able to get them for around £1/200 now, I think they were about £350 new.

ED: It's called the SH AC500D. Found a good review of it here

since you havn't mentioned a specific budget, one option could be a 2nd hand Sony TA-E9000ES.
Originally they sold for about £1K but would probably go for under £500 .. maybe less used ..

thanks for the replies, that SH AC500D looks quite promising, some places have it for quite cheap saw a place with it for $75, but no stock left, all are in the US but cant find any in UK.

and £500 is quite over budget im afraid.
anything else?
thanks

If you are still looking I have a SH AC500D which may be available soon as I am planning an upgrade.

If so what's your budget, I don't really want to "give" it away as it's such an excellent bit of kit.

See if you can dig out the following:

Denon AVD-1000 (DTS)
Denon AVD-2000 (DD)
Millenium 2.4.6 (DTS)
Yamaha DDP-2 (DD)

Not aware of any model which can do both.

Otherwise considered an AV preamp/processor?
