Supossed to be unlocked. When I got it I switched it on and I noticed that it hat the ATT sim still in the phone. I looked in settings and thre was a "Carrier" option in there so I click in there to fint the o2,tmobile and something else can't remember . Ok so I turn phone off and changed to my Sim card (O2) contract one. Turn on and now say no Service. Now on the settings menu the "carrier" option is gone . Not there anymore. Is the phone locked again? I havent connected on my PC and I havent download anything.
Any ideas chaps? Please Please.
P.S The phone rocks. Is soooo mice to use.

Hmm, you may end up having to restore to 1.0.2, careful though as you don't want iTunes to pull you up to 1.1.1
You need to download the 1.0.2 software, turn off iTunes helper (in activity viewer) then hold down the alt key when clicking restore(in iTunes), select the 1.0.2 firmware then follow the guide at....
http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/IPhone_unlock_OS_X_Part_1
When you download the 1.0.2 software DO NOT UNZIP IT. You won't be able to select it in iTunes (whilst holding the alt key and clicking restore) unless it is the zipped up file.
All the above are for Mac, i'll be around all night if you need help though.

Now if I put the ATT sim back on the "carrier" icon comes back on and displays the O2 vodafone orange and t mobile . When I remove the sim and put the O2 sim the "carrier" icon is gone.
What I am doing wrong chaps?

From your description it may need activating - do a google for PACAY this activates the phone and youtube and allows you to swap SIM without reactivating.

Well done. Now you need to remove the ( ) from the phone numbers and apply the text message update (so you can see who is texting you on the main screen)
To do this just replace the iphone file with the one below using ibrickr......
http://r apidshare.com/files/55330128...ats.plist.html (take the space out after the r......
The path to change on the phone is
/System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBookUI.framework/ABPhoneFormats.plist
Overwrite the original then restart the phone.
Second - the text message update....
http://cynix.org/iphone/AppSupport-10.tar.gz
Unzip/extract then navigate to /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/ and overwrite the original.
(Once unzipped it will become a file called AppSupport - file MUST be unzipped before you send it over to the phone)
Reboot and enjoy.

hiya mate,
i see you're experienced at this unlocking lark.
Just a quick question, i have unlocked quite a few of them in the past so I know what I'm doing, this particular one is proving to be a pain in the backside.
I connect the phone to my computer (PC) and run a number of jailbreaking programs but nothing seems to work. I've used ibrickr, jailbreak.exe, installer.app
I normally run the batch files, follow the on-screen instructions and everythings fine. This particular one just reverts back to the 'activate using itunes' page.
Any help would be much appreciated.

text messages show up with the persons name now :0
only prob is with removing the ( ) from the phone numbers..
when you have 011x numbers they appear on the phone as "011 xxxxxxxx" instead of "011xxxxxxxx" (one long string)
i just amended the plist's last US entry to have "011$" instead of "011 $" in case any of you guys also would like to do the same thing..
nice one!!

I've ordered a new unlocked US iphone from ebay and it should arrive in the next 5 days or so - hopefully. Apart from copying the contacts from outlook (I presume the manual says how) into it and putting in my O2 settings, it looks from the thread that I will have to sort out the contacts display and text message issues.
I'm no techie but not totally inept either. Are these the only basic things I will need to do and are there any step by step guides that could be posted or sent by private message please?
Thanks for all your help to an iphone newbie - well, very soon anyway.

All the copying/synching of contacts, mail, music etc. is done via iTunes (disable auto check for updates in preferences).
You don't have to do the above at all but it does make the phone more UK'ised.
The main thing you have to stay well away from a the moment is restoring or updating the phone with the new 1.1.1 software. Ask if you need anymore info.

OK - iphone should arrive on Saturday or Monday. As it should be unlocked on 1.0.2 then in order to sort out phone number display and text messages I believe I have to use ibrickr and use the files listed above in the thread (I've downloaded these in preparation). So, on a PC, when Kieron says overwrite the files I presume this means copy the relevant downloaded file to the location listed in the thread onto the iphone through ibrickr. Windows will say the file already exists and do I want to replace. I click on yes.
Is that right?
Are there any other applications you would recommend for downloading?
All advice gratefully received.

Hi there, I recently got my unlocked iphone and followed the posted instructions for text messages etc. I used ibrickr but the downloaded file name was slightly different. Although the downloaded file appeared on phone, it now had 2 similarly named files but texts were the same. Stupidly I decided to rename the new file to overwrite the original. After that the phone wouldn't even reboot, I contacted kieron who spent many hours on phone and email trying to sort it. In the end I had to take a trip to Blackpool where kieron sorted it for me on his mac. My advice is be very careful, and follow anything kieron advises you do 'cos he knows what he's doing!!
Good luck and enjoy the phone, easily the best I have used

Yep, dock your phone and launch ibrickr, click on files, on the picture of the phone in ibrickr you will see the file structure/tree just click and drill down to the directory you want to place the file into, you can click the existing file and bottom left of ibrickr is a download option if you want to take a copy of the existing file.
To copy a file onto the phone just click upload file and browse to the file you want uploading, ibrickr will do the rest.
Close ibrickr and you will need to power down your phone, hold the sleep/off button until slide to power off appears, then restart and you should be done.
If you want other applications etc. on your phone then via ibrickr click on applciations and install pxl, this list can be updated via wireless, it includes customising apps. etc.

You need to directly overwrite the file. It must be like for like, not zipped up and not with any other extension. Your ftp program will ask you if you wish to overwrite the current file.
What exactly are you looking to do?

Also managed to break contract with o2, although they won't let me switch to simplicity and keep my number, having to port it over to orange payg then back to simplicity next week, at least its saved 12 months of the contract though!
Keep up the good work, might see you again if I have anymore problems!

Flinty - Thanks for the advice. You've got me worried now. The phone will hopefully arrive on Monday as it's already in the DHL depot in Birmingham where I live.
For the text message update I've downloaded the file as listed in this thread (the one from cynix.org which Kieron listed). It is showing as AppSupport-10 on my desktop.
For the phone number display update I downloaded frpm rapidshare using the link posted by sunil1234. This shows as ABPhoneFormats.plist on my desktop.
I presume these are the 2 correct files to download unzipped with ibrickr onto the iphone to replace the existing files. The paths to change as listed by Kieron are:
1. Text Message Update - /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/
2. Phone Number Update -
/System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBookUI.framework/ABPhoneFormats.plist
I presume by connecting the iphone through ibrickr all the files will be listed and I replace them with the ones above.
Have I understood this right and are the replacement files I've listed from the sites I've mentioned the right ones with the correct names (so I don't get Flinty's problem).
Thanks for any further advice - I'm sorry I'm being a bit of a pain checking all this out but I don't want a lump of plastic staring at me if I fail!!

Hi Eddiethered,
The file I downladed was also Appsupport-10, when I used ibrickr the file on iPhone was Appsupport. I uploaded the Appsupport-10 file and then both these files were showing on the phone. The phone worked fine but still no name for text messages.
I then renamed Appsupport-10 to AppSupport so it would overwrite the original, big mistake. After re-booting all I got was the apple logo on screen, and I had to pay Kieron a visit to fix it for me.
Kieron and the rest of the regulars on here with iPhones know a lot more than me, I would suggest getting in touch with one of them when you get the phone, and don't go renaming any files!!!
Good luck, hope you get it sorted
Flinty

You need to extract the file Appsupport from the AppSupport-10.tar.gz you downloaded, use winrar or something similar, you should be uploading a file just called Appsupport to the path you listed. No renaming is required.
The ABPhoneFormats.plist is correct and can be uploaded as it is.
When you launch iBrickr you will see a picture of the phone on the right of the window, the file/directory structure will be listed when you click on Files in iBrickr, just click to drill down to correct directory and select upload files and selct the file from your desktop to load to the phone.

I did get mine from ebay. If you are careful you won't brick the phone. If you do screw something up it's relatively easy to put them straight again.
I'd hang on a few days for the free 1.1.1 firmware unlock, then grab a locked one from the States and unlock it yourself.

1. Are there any reliable volume improvement downloads? The links on the thread all have variable comments about their quality
2. On O2 I can't get the edge connection to access the o2 active homepage? Can anyone help me with this?
3. Can yahoo push email be configured through O2 and the iphone?
4. Also the bluetooth connection seems to not want to connect with some mobile phones but connects fine with my car? Is this a common problem (I know it can only be paired with one device at a time).
5. Can Youtube be connected? - I get a cannot connect message.

Sorry can't answer the O2/Yahoo questions as don't use either.
Bluetooth - Only connects to audio devices, no other profiles installed or activated.
Youtube - A couple of ways of enabling it, PACAY (google it) enables Youtube as does copying across the license files directly to the phone. May be worth a look on modmyiphone or such like for more info.

2. No idea. Could be only locked o2 phones are able to access this page?
3. Don't think so
4. Bluetooth on the iphone is used only for headsets, so impossible to connect with other phones unless a hack is available, which i dont think there is at the moment
5. There's a fix for this too. Check hackint0sh or modmyiphone forums,

Hey Kieron/any other iPhone expert,
I updated my unocked iPhone from 1.02 to 1.1.1 last night succesfully..
today I was just changing the Appsupport, and I uploaded a wrong version of it.. (the 1.02 version), when it was rebooting it was stuck on the Apple logo screen, but I could still get my cyberduck connection..
so I uploaded the backup of the 1.1.1 AppSupport I had, and thought that would put it back to how it was..
I'm still stuck on the Apple logo screen!!
How can I get my iPhone back working again please?
eerily enough, I can still sync it with itunes while it's stuck on the Apple logo screen!!!

I have PM'd you back but have been at work all night so not sure if you have this sorted or not. ibrickr or independance may well sort the issue, I get the impression that you haven't put the original file back correctly or deleted the offending file correctly though.

I don't think you need to do it on 1.1.1 - you just use the International option in the settings menu to select UK formatting.

No. There is no international option in my setting smenu. There is a hack i can download to enable international menu and what does is to ensure that the numbers appear on the phone in the correct format instead of defaulting to the US format.
What it doesn't do is make the phone understand that a number listed in outlook as +44 1494 etc is the same as 01494 etc. So when that number dials my phone it doesn't give me the persons name and therfore indiviual ringtones etc don't work.
Any ideas,

The international option was brought in on 1.1.2.
I bought a 1.0.2 us phone and have now updated through 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 which now allows the international options.

The obvious answer is to upgrade to 1.1.2, which will fix all of these issues...
