Sony RHT-G800 Home Cinema System/Stand

Anyone got a Sony RHT-G800 Home Cinema System/Stand. looks wise i think it is good, however not sure how it will sound. At 700 quid i want want it to be very good. Anybody heard it?

Just got my stand last friday but the wrong Sony LCD came as well they sent a 40x2000 rather than the 46x2000 (which comes Wed). Of interest the stand looks loads better than it did in the shop, looks class. I have only heard the sound in the shop which was really good, it will be the weekend before I can hitch up the new TV to it. The stand cost £399 with the TV, its a sony offer..

I saw from some review the following "we are slightly put off by the fact that it will only pass through 1080i. This means if you own a 1080p TV, you won't be able to send a full HD signal to it from your Blu-ray or HD DVD player via this stand."

I intend to return to the home cinema fold soon with a 46" 1080p Sony and an upscaling Sony dvd player with HDMI connection so,have I
got a problem if I buy this stand?

It is very attractive due to the lack of clutter,but I will not comprimise quality.

they sell them in costco for 580 which includes vat. the price is putting me off a bit as i think it may not be worth the money .

My LCD came yesterday and its now hitched up to the RHTG800 stand.

Sound quality is very good better than my Technics surround system but most of all it really looks good and easy to use.

Would I buy one at £600+, only if I intended to buy a stand anyway and one that looks good, that would cost around £300/400 and you get a surround system thrown in with no messy speaker cables. As I said I got mine for £399so I am over the moon.
The guy at our local sony centre tried to put me off the RHTG800 stand (because they did not have any) by saying it has iffy build quality, rubbish its a sony.

Finally arrived its slightly wider than the stand so a 40" would fit pefectly.

I am looking at this stand too, to go with my 46X2000 bravia, but one question please:

Can this unit pass through 1080p? There are so many conflicting articles on the net, some saying it does pass through and some saying it doesn't. Sony's manual for this stand also references 1080p.

Can a user clarify once and for all what the position is please before I part with the cash??!!!

Check page 44 of the PDF manual is that what you were looking for, HDMI section for details on 1080i/1080p.

Doesn't seem to be too many stockists.

And does it really clock in at 59 kilos in weight, that's around 9.5 stones

The stand is very heavy it took 2 of us to manhandle it in the house, its rein- forced an so is able to take big LCDs and also has the speakers etc.
