sound delay when recording off sky

if i set my dvd recorder to record a program off sky (via scart) that i have selected to automatically start (so the sky box switches itself on when the program is due to start) i always get a delay between the sound and the picture when watching it back, however if i leave the sky box turned on i don't get a delay.
I can't for the life of me work out why it is! can anyone offer any advice or a way of rectifiying this problem?

Leave your Sky box switched on.
