I think that some of the 'region free chips' will let you circumnavigate this, but thats about it I think.

A lot of my disc's let me picture search through it all, and even some of them i can FF. Cant remember the ones but i know i can.
Before i had My dvd player wired up in RGB ( auto switches TV on)
i use to turn the player on and carry on watching TV, then after a couple of minutes turn the AV channel on.
I know what you mean paul, its anoying waiting for the disc to load up, but i dont think there's anything you can do as its the copy rights ect.

Yup, my multi-region mod disables user prohibitions. I just hit the menu button or skip button or whatever and I'm out of there.
I turned the user prohibitions on after a few months to see what kind of things they don't let you do and was shocked that I couldn't change subtitle or audio tracks while the movie is playing and some disks forced me to watch 10 mins of trailers
As this is my first DVD player, I wasn't aware that the movie studies were being so heavy handed about things
Suffice it to say, the user prohibitions were soon turned off again

"Current operation prohibited"....that really annoys me
Most of the Disney DVDs that I have bought for my Grandchildren to watch have adverts for a few of the other Disney films available. These have this annoying trait of playing them before the film(As they did with video). However with Video it was always possible to fast forward them, or better still reset the counter at the beginning of the film and just rewind to there.
With DVD however I cannot find a way of bypassing them, what is the point of making us sit through them, we already have the films being advertised. It's really annoying.

Re: "Current operation prohibited"....that really annoys me
If you hit the chapter skip button on your player you should be able to skip through the trailers one by one until you get to the menu. I've tried this several times and it always seems to work :-)

Oh, it's progressing. But, the benefits of progress are NOT going to the consumer.
