Is it possible to extract mail boxes from Virgin Web Mail in order to use them in a regular email program?

Yes. I used to have a Virgin mail account working in Outlook Express via POP.
I cant remember the settings as it was a while ago but Im sure it must tell you on Virgin mail as I managed to set it up ok.
Set up a new account in outlook express...

just follow the instructions but note the account name is the original one given to you by virgin eg ab123c4567 and not your edited name. It caught me out first time round.
