Digital Coax muted

Hi,

I have just changed my Denon DVD1930 for a Marantz DV6001 DVD player.
This DVD player is connected to my tv via HDMI and to my amp via coax.

My problem is that the DVD player mutes the digital audio out connections if it outputs on HDMI ( to the tv). This means that I can not watch a DVD in surround via my amp.

It does however output on the analouge connections.
My TV also has a digital audio out.
I always thought that it was best to output via a digital connection to the amp but this looks impossible with this player.

What would be the best way to connect my tv, amp, and dvd player so I can watch a DVD via the TV sound or amp surround.

Thanks for any replys.

Re: Digital Coax muted

This seems to becoming more usual where if connected via HDMI then audio is only via HDMI and is not outputted to the amp.

My Phillips does this and you have to go into settings and disable HDMI audio for coaxial to work. Look into your settings for audio.

Thanks for that.

That works but now I have to go into the DVD setup menu if I want to watch a dvd without the amp on. I cannot send audio to the tv via HDMI and amp via coax like I could with my Denon DV1930 dvd player.

Would the sound be worse if I connected the DVD player to the amp with analouge cables and not the digital coax.

Re: Digital Coax muted

Yes you would only get a stereo signal not a multichannel one so you will have to press a few buttons im afraid.
