[Newbie] Ordered new amp and surround speakers - which cabling?

I've ordered the Onkyo 875 receiver and the Aego T 5.1 set of speakers. This is the first AV equipment I've ever bought. Never gave cabling much thought but it seems there is as much choice for cabling as there is for the amp & speakers!

So what should I get? Something that would do this combo justice with going too high-end. One retailer has suggested QED original @ £3.39pm and a 3m QED S-PW sub lead at £34. Should I go with this?

Also, (Aego owners) what type of connection does the Aego T sub have, Y or single?

Cheers.

I didn't find there was any difference with speaker cables (but others on this forum may disagree).

Many users of this forum use VanDamme Blue Series loudspeaker cables.

For the subwoofer cable, you could do a lot worse than use Mark Grant's subwoofer cable.

Both of these are part of the Cable Power Buy Special Offers (see: http://www.avforums.com/forums/cable-power-buy-special-offers/)

The cable issue is a religious topic for some people and it's easy to insult the believers... My personal belief is that you can'Ät do too much wrong with speaker cables, though.

I have tried some "good" cables that cost me ~9 Euro/meter and I have tried cables that were 1,50 Euro/meter, and I was completely unable to hear any difference whatsoever. This is why I always tell people not to care too much about cables - just buy any that have a decently robust isolation (mechanical properties seem important to me). The money you would have to spend for "high-end" or even "mid-range" cabling is better spent for a bunch of DVDs or games.

Just my 2 Eurocents...

Thats interesting, i'm not a big believer in spending loads of money, but i have to say that when i changed speaker cable my brother and i defintely heard a difference in the bass and midrange, the old cable had a beutiful midrange and the new cable had better bass. I totally agree don't waste to much on a cable though.

These were both QED biware cables that cost the same price. One was silver annirversary and the other was profile something or other.

We ran the test buy having one speaker with the new and one with the old.

Totally agree with recommendation for mark grants cables.
