Help a confused person

Hey All,

Ok so I have an Panny SAXR700, with SBTP1000 speaker system connected, with a Panny 42inch Plasma.

I also have a PS3, DVD recorder and Sky+ box.

I have found it easy enough to connect the PS3, got the HDMI plugged into the SAXR700 and then another HDMI cable plugged from the SAXR700 to the TV.

Im having problems with working out how is best to connect up the DVD recorder and SKY+ box. They are currently both plugged straight into the TV via SCART, they both have digital optical cables which I know I need to plug into the SAXR700, but should I change the video output to RGB component cables from these boxes to the SAXR700 and then from the SAXR700 to the TV? or do I only need the digital optical audio cables.

Plus also if I have a HDMI connection from the AMP to the TV, do I also need a RGB component connection, or can the sky and DVD box's be converted to go throught the HDMI cable?

Please help.......

Re: Help a confused person

Part answer,
You only need the optical cables for your sound from the dvd and sky to the av receiver. Then the dvd and sky box have either your scart or hdmi connecting to the tv.

Re: Help a confused person

You don't have to have the video going via the amp. I, for example, have my video signal going straight from my DVD player to my projector.

The advantage with putting everything through the amp is that you can then use less remote controls(!) and perhaps take advantage of video upscaling/switching depending on your amp's capabilities e.g. if your amp has better upscaling technology than your DVD player, use the amp's upscaling technology by routing through the amp.
