DVD's from South Africa - any suggestions?

A relative is currently on holiday in South Africa, and has asked me if there are any DVD's I would like brought back. I know SA is R2, but have no idea what titles are available out there, different versions of films, special editions etc. Does anyone know of any SA based websites that I could browse to get some ideas?
TIA,

...ahh... yes... South African DVDs of all those fabulous South African movies... now that would be something!

...frankly, I doubt that there are ANY "South African" DVDs - they'll likely have the same as the UK versions, if not the actual (imported) UK versions themselves...

...I think...

. . . . . .

South Africa has Region 2 DVD's just like UK. They are also likely to be more expensive (even with the fantastic exchange rate for visitors) as SA importers have to pay high import tax on EVERYTHING!

As for South African movies, there are a few good ones, but would probably go whooooosh! over most Poms heads. ie. they contain Afrikaans language parts which you won't understand, African language accents which even some Africans battle to hear and (unfortunately) too much local slang and colloquilisms (sp?) for their own good. Bit like those Hong Kong kung-fu films without the English dubbing/subtitles.

Now South African music is another story entirely. Great stuff from folk to rock to house. Just don't ask me for any websites. I haven't been home in a year and forgot to check up last time I was there anyway - idiot!

There are quite a few South African movies on DVD - but as a previous poster said, it would probably not appeal to anyone outside of S.A. I have a few including the Shaka Zulu TV miniseries, and a movie called Mr Bones.

Imported movies are more expensive in S.A. but they do make DVD's locally under license which can be competetive in price, though only by a pound or two so it is not worth the effort.
