Sony NS705 handset not working

Our handset appears to have packed up, although the player itself is still working fine. The device was bought four years ago.

We've changed the batteries with no result. When any button is pressed, the player refuses to respond.

Can anyone talk me through what I should do in terms of (a) fixing it, or (b) getting a replacement?

Before you buy a new remote can you borrow a sony dvd remote and try that as it might not be the remote but the player itself.If you can borrow a remote it does not have to be for that model any sony dvd remote should work the basic functions.

Thanks, Martin. Good idea - but don't know anyone who's got one. I see on another thread that some players have a key lock function (so I'll make sure it's not that, but I don't think so because the buttons on the front of the player work), and also that the infra-red sensor can die - which probably lies behind your suggestion of trying another remote.

I might buy an all-in-one handset anyway, as we're beginning to need it.

Dead battery. Only one, but fresh out of a new pack. How embarrassing.

Oh well, problem solved anyway.
