I know this may be a stupid question but my dad is looking at getting broadband, he currently is using an old telewest dial up connection but its costing him a fortune.

Can a Virgin media customer with a cable phone chose any ADSL provider or do they have to stay with virgin and select a cable broadband package ??

He'll have to go with Virgin, or get a BT 'phone and another adsl package :)

Cable phones are independent of the BT network

I think that will be the answer... i have taken a look and they offer a self install. I was on 2mb in the early days but have recently upgraded to 10mb which is now 20mb. Checked my connection last night and i was running...
