JVC GZ-MG275 or Panasonic SDR-H250?

Hi,

I've managed to narrow down my choices for a new Camcorder to the JVC GZ-MG275, and the Panasonic SDR-H250. They are both a similar price with similar specs bar one important one. The JVC has a single 2M pixel sensor and the Panasonic has a 3CCD (3 X 800k) sensor. Can anyone offer any advice on which would produce the better picture?

Also, are JVC having supply issues at the moment? Most of the major retailers and websites seem to have no stock of the 275. In fact, Currys told me it was discontinued. Maybe it's just the time of year.

I also have two others I'm looking at. The Panasonic SDR-150 and the Sanyo Xacti VPC HD2. The Panasonic is just above my limit, and the Sanyo gets poor reviews. Can anyone offer any experiences of either of these?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: JVC GZ-MG275 or Panasonic SDR-H250?

I had an SDR-S150 last year. If you want a very small, very handy camcorder that records to an SD card in SD (standard definition), then it's an excellent choice.

I only sold mine to go HD (Hi Def).

I bought mine from www.computeruniverse.net in Germany. It came with a full 2 year warranty (I have bought loads of stuff from them and they are excellent). They are currently selling the SDR-S150 at £409, and they take credit cards.

How do you get on with VAT etc, by ordering from Germany? Also, do you get UK spec kit or does it have european plugs etc?

You pay German VAT. The German VAT was already included in the price I gave you.

If you have a UK VAT number you give that to them, they run it through their special VAT Number cruncher and if it shows up as genuine then they ship to you without any VAT at all.

Yes, you get a Euro plug, but it's only a Euro plug to a figure of eight lead. A UK plug to figure of eight lead costs about a quid, and I'd be surprised if you don't already have a dozen around your house already.

Other than that, in my experience, the German model is exactly the same as the UK PAL model.
