Choices.......... (samsung mainly)

Hi there, am new to the site and was hoping someone could give me a hand choosing a decent tv, as you're all blatently far more clued up than I am.......

Got about a £700 budget and I'm looking for a decent 37 - 42 inch tv for my living room. My mate recently bought a 40inch samsung LE40R8 ( http://www.ajelectronics.co.uk/ViewP...ode=LE40R87BDX) - which is decent for freeview and DVD's, but its ****-poor for games to be honest, especially proevo. Im starting to think that HD-tvs are just really a bit **** for games once you get past about 30inches. The fact that its big and 'sharp' means that I can see all the imperfections in the game. Its pixelated and the shadows on fast moving objects are ****ing horrific. Quite frankly my old 28inch SD tv is better than that LE40R8 (which was £670 - and yes Ive got the settings on HD ).

Maybe its the fact that its an LCD that makes it so poor at displaying games (shadowing and all) - so ive started looking at plasmas - the samsung PS42Q97HDX to be specific, (http://www.letshave-it.co.uk/index.p...roducts_id=454)

any thoughts anyone? best value for money? better than the LE40R8? (regardless of size) other suggestions?

Sorry for rambling, cheers in advance.

Nick

The Sammy is great for playing games from next gen consoles.

What game machine has he got?

I'd have a look at the panny TH37PX70 or TH42PX70. You'll find a lot more help in the dedicated plasma threads.

Hes got a 360. COD2 looks pretty horrible, as does COD3 (although its better), Pro evo suffers from terrible (at points) motion blur and all in all Id rather my old 28inch CRT for those games.

It probably doesn't help that I was sitting about 6ft from the screen, but still, for £670 I expected more - I can sit 3 ft from my CRT and not have a prob (not that Id want to )

oh and cheers dazza - ill try over in the plasma threads.
