Virgin supplied modem

Hi guys,

I have the E08C007, a small black modem and I have a few questions for ya!

Can you please tell me what the best modem Virgin give out with thier service?

Can you tell me what the best modem to buy would be if I wanted to fork out for one?

I have a Linksys BEFSX41 firewall router attached.

The reason I ask is that im not that happy with the speed im getting. Im on a 20mb service and am getting around 14.5mb d/l and 734 u/l.

I would think the motorola modems are good, in not the best they had/have.

The 20mb connection is having major problems, most people are very lucky to hit round 16mb. TBH the 20Meg is the max you could hit at anyone time. I dont think you would ever hit that unless you were downloading from big servers ( microsoft etc) and had the best connecion etc.
VM is actually osing customers due to their crap service most of this involves making you feel like a prat when you ring them.Hope this helps

Yep they've lost me. Last straw was making me pay 25p per min to be told to reboot my modem!

I get 20Mb(actual12Mb) for 25mins then 4Mb. Is that worth £37/month. A steady 8Mb/s is available for £10 elsewhere.

I changed from my old white scientic modem for a new small black scientific one as virgin said the old one wouldnt cope with 20mb/s. Regretting the day it was changed as I got better speeds with the white one!

the problem for you m8 is your router
i used to have 1 & it cant handle the 20meg speed
you need to change it , then you can get the full 20 meg

If you read your original post, and the post they've quoted, you mentioned having a Linksys router.

I have 19mb from my Linksys router when wired, lucky to get between 4-5mb when wireless, just as an example.
