View Full Version : Cheap soundcard to switch between 5.1 & dig. stereo without intervention

I've currently got a Fortissimo II soundcard that will do both 5.1 and stereo via the TOSlink ouptut, but changing between the two requires a change in the set-up screen followed by rebooting the PC!
I'd like to swap this for a soundcard that will happily ouptut both 5.1 and normal stereo (from Winamp etc.) without any need to reboot OR make set-up changes.
Can anyone recommend anything?
Cheers,
Richard

Anyone at all?
Hi Richard,
This is probably no help but the onboard spdif coaxial out on my Asus A7V333 gives both 5.1 and stereo without swopping settings, its based on the Cmedia chipset.
I have also used an Nisis 6 channel card which had a toslink out in my previous motherboard and that used the Cmedia chipset, I'm pretty sure, although can't confirm that this did what you wanted too.
Maybe that means its the Cmedia chipset you need??

Thanks for that John, the cmedia info could help me find what I'm looking for.
Of course, what would be really handy is for someone to recommend a card that can do this.......

Richard
