Modem for BT Broadband and Apple Airport Extereme

I have BT Total Broadband and I bought an Apple Airport Extreme so to make use of my 802.11N card in my laptop.

Can anyone recommend a broadband modem that would work with my setup?

have a gander here...

http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/defa...?ShopGroupID=1

your looking for an ADSL modem with ethernet.
The modem will then do the connection part of the network, and the Apple Airport will do the routing and wireless.

Thanks. Will just any ADSL modem with an Ethernet port work? I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of any.

Thanks. Isn't the DG834 a wireless router? Will the Airport Extreme work with a wireless router? I thought I just had to buy a Ethernet modem by itself.

Yes, any ADSL modem with ethernet will do the job, let the Airport Extreme do the routing for you.

hhhmmm If that's the case I could just use my BT Home Hub router as a modem and disable all the firewall and stuff on that router and use the Airport extreme as my router.

Never tried it, but it's got to be worth a try before shelling out on a modem (not that they're particularly expensive, but that's not the point).

No the DG834G is the wireless router but as has already bean said any ethernet router/modem will do. The netgear is the one i have experience with. Easy set up and i have had no problems with it (unlike a D Link i bought first)

Re: Modem for BT Broadband and Apple Airport Extereme

The aiport extreme will work as a bridge, so basically any ADSL modem should work. But I have a BT Voyager modem & extreme base station and that works fine.

Don't forget to set the Extreme's country to Ireland so you get the full wireless n experience. (disclaimer: not actually legal )

Does it not work with N if I set it to UK?

Re: Modem for BT Broadband and Apple Airport Extereme

It does but it can only advertise up to 2.5X speed, rather than the 5X enjoyed by Ireland, the USA etc. Basically 'full' n access involves the use of the 40Mhz band in the 5GHz range, which allows for faster speeds and less interference.

I own the AEBS as a bridge from my free modem/router and it's absolutely brilliant. I've hooked it up to my printer and an external hard disk as well.

Re: Modem for BT Broadband and Apple Airport Extereme

Thanks for your help guys. The thing arrived a while ago but BT turned my internet connection off at the exchange for about 2 weeks so I have been unable to test it out, I'll give it a go this weekend with my old BT Voyger wireless router.
