The Rock on BBC HD
I'm sure a lot here will be pleased to find out that "The Rock" is showing on BBC HD next Saturday (21st July) at 21:30pm.

Re: The Rock on BBC HD
I'm just upgrading all my kit this week for HD, and fitting it all at the moment, Sky HD is being installed on Tuesday.
Thanks for the heads up on The Rock, it will be the first thing to be set recording once the sky engineer has gone
Looking forward to it already

Re: The Rock on BBC HD
I've got the Criterion DVD so it'll be interesting to see how the HD broadcast compares especially given it's a Blu-ray title

Re: The Rock on BBC HD
Thought the PQ was excellent, even stunning on some facial closeups. The aspect ratio seemed to be 2.35:1 too, DVBViewer said the audio was 5.1 Dolby and the BBC HD logo was gone. All in all, a great broadcast of a sometimes outrageously over-the-top, but nonetheless, entertaining, popcorn movie.

Re: The Rock on BBC HD
Wasn't 5.1 on the Sky HD platform...very seldom the films are.

Re: The Rock on BBC HD
I believe the bbc HD logo was above the black bars, but i'll have to check that in a moment, if so, it's a trivial job to crop out can't wait til tonights showing to grab it down from sat, it looked quite good on the V+ box, but i'm interested in comparing the two side-by-side.

Interestingly DVBViewer was showing a red 5.1 logo in the status bar during the broadcast. When I swapped channels it disappeared and went back to the normal stereo logo. On studying the Transport Stream DVB Source though, it just said AC3 2/0 so I guess it was just stereo after all.

Re: The Rock on BBC HD
Ok it wasn't 5.1 and the picture broke up a few times (not sure if that was just mine or not) but I really enjoyed watching it again. Great film and even better in HD.

Re: The Rock on BBC HD
picure quality was excellent
but sound quality was very poor , not 5.1 as mentioned in earlier replies, has to juggle amp settings about to get an improvement.
the subwoofer was asleep all way thru film .have got original on dvd so will see at a later date how it compares
