ADSL connection probelm when booting up

In the past week or so when I boot up the internet connection is dead, despite the router (Netgear DG632) saying everything is fine (even in the admin settings) and the mac saying its connected also. But it takes a few router restarts before the internet becomes active.

The only thing that has changed recently is that I am waiting for change over to Sky Broadband from Eclipse and something there is causing the issue.

Any ideas please?

thanks

David

oh well, doesn't matter now. I've gone over to sky and I'm running faster, go figure.

Do you leave your router on all the time?

yes I usually do. as much as possible if it wasn't playing up.

you know when I said I was running faster now I'm on Sky, well that lasted 4 hours, now I'm lucky if I'm getting 56k dial up speeds.

Re: ADSL connection probelm when booting up

son of a bitch!!!

I have no idea why but I'm back to being disconnected when everything "seems" ok. Its just taken 10 minutes trying to get back online and then PING it miraculously starts working again, but it still thinks its coneected from before.

It cant be Sky, the same thing happened with eclipse. So confused

Re: ADSL connection probelm when booting up

Is your eMac connected to the router via Ethernet?

Try disabling all the router security features (WEP etc.) as a test. Sometimes they give problems.

Re: ADSL connection probelm when booting up

If you have just switched to sky then your connection will be up and down like a whore's drawers while it tries to stabalise (ironic huh ?) ... will settle down though ...

Re: ADSL connection probelm when booting up

does this settling period include absolutely no activity on the line despite 3 green lights?

Can I get a higher quality phone wire from anywhere?
