Re: 5 min boot into windows

Have you changed anything else ? I remember I once moved some photos from one folder to another, forgetting that I was using one of them as my desktop background. Windows spent ages on bootup looking for it !
Edit - Have you got a restore point from before installing the printer ? If so it might be worth considering doing a system restore to that point if it's convenient.

Re: 5 min boot into windows

I see you have a xbox 360. Are you using Windows Media connect? If so it scans the media folder every time you reboot. If you have a fairly large folder it will take a while to scan it all.

I had this and it was driving me mad trying to figure out what it was. When I did find the culprit I disabled it.

Or you can do as John suggested and roll back your system to a time before this happened.

Either way good luck.

Re: 5 min boot into windows

On a fresh system install you should be seeing the windows desktop at around 45-60 secs. The HDD will continue to load programs for another 30-60 secs.

Re: 5 min boot into windows

Loading times are mainly affected by the amount of Services you have automatically starting and the amount of memory resident programs you use. Obviously, the more of each the longer the boot process takes. If you're comfortable stopping and starting services, have a look at what starts automatically and disable any you don't need, tough ensure you're 100% what they are before you do that.

Re: 5 min boot into windows

Hi just went into msconfig twice the first time i disabled everything in start up and the second time i disabled everything in services i rebooted after each time but i noticed no change in the time it takes my pc to boot on both occasions. But after disabling everything in start up then rebooting i did notice i am no longer getting the system 32 folder loading on my screen when windows starts System 32. I guess to turn the system 32 off in start up though is the wrong was of getting rid of it from coming on the screen cause you need that folder loading on start up ?

Re: 5 min boot into windows

Bekko - Sometimes its easier to do a fresh install of the OS. If a problem takes more than a few hours to solve I just wipe the system. I like to refresh my OS around 2-3 times a year as matter of course.

Re: 5 min boot into windows

Well, when I said about disabling Services and memory resident programs I didn't mean them all It does sound like there's something odd going on and I'd agree with Razor, just format it and start again... it'd save a lot of time and effort.

Re: 5 min boot into windows

What printer do you have ? I recently installed my HP and it has a software update that runs at startup everytime. I have removed that and everything back to normal. I don't think you need a rebuild. I have a AMD 2500+ and I can boot and be posting in AvForums in under 2 mins. I also have a 360 connected to my machine.

Is your printer on when you boot ?

Re: 5 min boot into windows

Do you have zonealarm on your pc ?
If you do try removing it to see it it speeds up.
