i'd upgrade the 320 GTS to the 640 GTS, but they only offer the 768 GTX, which would be well worth it, but goes over your budget, the rest seems fine.

Hi there,
cheers for that. ive looked on the dell site and this is the nearest i can find in my range. bearing in mind i would have to add a monitor and speakers the dell is the mesh the best of the 2? to my untrained eye it looks like it is. i would be upgrading the graphics card on the mesh which would take it to £1300. which would mean i would have around £350 to add a monitor and speakers to the dell!

Re: Mesh computer - looks good but not sure why the put 667MHz ram with it. 800MHz or more should be a minimum. Digital & analogue tuners are rather pointless as media centre supports either one or the other. I'd recommend a dual tuner digital card if you're into watching tv on it.
I'd stay away from Dell for a gaming pc, especially in case you may want to upgrade in the future. Dell pc's are great in theory, cheap and quiet, but once anything goes wrong outside of warranty or you want to upgrade then you either get an expensive bill from Dell or need to swap a lot of the components cos Dell use proprietary stuff. My mum bought a dell a few years back for a few hundred quid and it was great. A few months out of warranty and the motherboard started acting up. Dell wanted £200 to replace it. Bear in mind the pc one cost a few hundred quid more brand new. So she took it to a pc shop to get it repaired. They ended up having to replace the case, psu and motherboard as standard motherboards dont fit in dell cases.

Try to get one with PC6400 (800mhz) memory because for a system over 1K I would expect at least that.

Hi there,
You are correct, Mesh are a good company and on the whole offer very good products. However what you must remember is Mesh build systems on a massive scale and components such as RAM, TFT's etc.. are usually generic. Plus you really ought to be looking at 800Mhz DDRII really. Apart from that it is a pretty decent system overall.
Another point to remember is the nforce 650 chipset in the machine is somewhat mid range and has been superseeded by Nforce 680i SLI. Look for something with a P5N32-E sli with core2duo E6600 and you won't go far wrong.
Cheers
Chris.

The 680 came out before the 650 to be exact.
The 680 is the enthusiast part aimed at overclockers and people who must have what they think is the best.
If you don't overclock or plan to overlock there isn't any difference between the two running at any given speed. In fact if you are lucky to get a 650 board to 500mhz FSB i doubt there is any difference at all.

The original question was regarding a gaming pc, was it not? I would say that PC gamer and enthusiast are one and the same, hence why I suggested the 680i chipset over the 650
Cheers

Shouldnt be a problem with slapping in a sound card at a later date but a lot of people are quite satisfied with onboard sound.
