Re: Pioneer BDC-202

Where the hell is this thing? It`s almost like they announced it just so that they would have a competitively priced drive for marketing purposes.

Re: Pioneer BDC-202

Was this not the BR & HD combo drive, or have I got this confused with another drive I was keeping an eye on? It only seems to be talking about BR now?

Just read the review. Sounds like the one for me. As they were reviewing a pre-production drive, this could mean the final product will be even better.

We should all petition Pioneer and find out what the hell is going on with the release dates.

Re: Pioneer BDC-202

Just noticed Overclockers now have an ETA back on their site for this drive, 11/07/07. Let's hope this is true this time.

Trouble is, they've probably got so many on pre-order, it'll sell out straight away.

Re: Pioneer BDC-202

I've got a question about this HDCP thing.

My current computer has an nVidia 8800 GTX graphics card with an DVI output. My monitor only has a VGA plug so I'm using a DVI-VGA adapter. Does this mean that if I buy this drive I actually can't even watch Blu-ray movies with my current setup because my monitor doesn't support a digital connection? Are there even any monitors out there that have HDCP support? I think I've seen something like one.

HDCP is for digial only connections. You are using a DVI-A connection (analogue only), so HDCP will not be relevant. You should be able to watch blu-ray movies without a problem (for now).

At some point movie studios have the option of breaking this by means of 'tokens' encoded on the blu-ray disk. Nobody knows if or when this will happen though. Enjoy for now.

From what I understand the black ones should be available in around 2 weeks.
