Want to build my own

Hi,

Im getting really peed off with my pc having probs all the time, so ive decided I want to build my own from scratch! but have no idea where to start

I mainly use pc for internet, photoshop, video editing and general photo editing programs.

Have only decided on two things so far
Case I want is this one http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...campaign=cases
Processor will be intel core 2 duo or better.. depending on buget.
A good compatable motherboard with option to upgrade later and lots of spaces for storage and my 1000's of photos!.
Will be using vista ultimate.
Can anyone help me decide where to go from here as im totally clueless

Dave

Re: Want to build my own

What's the total budget for the PC ? It's difficult to recommend motherboards, hard drives etc as costs can vary considerably without knowing what you're willing/able to spend.

Saying that, I'l suggest some mid-range kit

This Gigabyte DS3 motherboard as it's not one of the more expensive options but does provide what you should need. Here's an alternative as well, an Abit Fatality FP-IN9.

For storage look for a 500GB hard drive like this Western Digital HD to give plenty space for your photo's and video, you could add a 2nd HD as well instead of just one if you do a lot of video editing. Also think about a smaller external hard drive for backing them upto as well.

RAM could be covered by this 2GB Corsair XMS

Graphics could be well covered by a 320MB Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS like this one

Not forgetting the soundcard, you could stick with internal audio or go for a X-Fi like this one.

Of course it'll need a PSU to run it all, maybe this 650W Coolermaster model.

I'll let you choose the Core2Duo as well, although the E6600 is a decent choice.

Hope that helps point you in the right direction and gives you an idea of what to look at.

Re: Want to build my own

As stu said need a working price Min+Max.

Without that your post is useless (No offence)

Edit
Also I would wait til the end of the month because the intel price cuts are due on the 22nd.

Re: Want to build my own

Sorry guys... I know my post is *******! but dont forget im new to all this.

I dont want to spend too much obvisouly... at this point in time I would say my budget is around 500, could be more... wont be buying it all at once.

I already have two internal hard drives on here and WD My book 500GB so I can use these for new pc. New MB would have to have 2 IDE's for other harddrives.
£200 for a graphic card!! bit extreme... !

Would the case I chose be ok for my needs?

Re: Want to build my own

The case would be fine for what you want, if you like the design then there's no reason not to get it.

Regarding the £200 being "a bit extreme", that's what happens when you don't give any info on the budget.

Motherboards with 2 IDE's are less common these days. You could just use SATA to IDE converters to use the on SATA ports.

Re: Want to build my own

Hi

Can someone check this spec and see if it can be improved
Not for gaming, pc will be used for photoshop, video editing and internet.

Case will be either of these 2 ---

http://www.xcase.co.uk/p/289010/nzxt...su--black.html

Motherboard --- Do I need raid?

Core 2 duo 2.4
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(14434)...z-1066FSB.aspx

2GB of compatable RAM
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(14773)...l-Channel.aspx

2 of these + 1TB
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(16566)...6-SATA-II.aspx

OS will be vista if it works with Photoshop. Still wondering which to get 32 or 64bit
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(16260)...2-Bit-OEM.aspx

Graphic card??
Maybe something basic like this ? Can you get Graphics with tv i/o so I can watch digital tv on pc?

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(18014)...pto-512MB.aspx
Mind there will be no gaming .. just high MB files, photos & Mini DV tapes

Internal card reader & floppy in one

And lastly a PSU

Already have a dvd burner, extra storage (My book 500GB), lcd monitor, keyboard and printer etc...
