DVB Viewer can't record BBC HD anymore!

I've had my HTPC for about a year now and recently recorded 'Jackal'. When I went to watch the recording it was just blank and DVBViewer skips through it in 5 minute chunks. Ah well, I thought, I'll record it again next time it's broadcast. However on try a few test recordings today, I can't play back any new recordings, but my old ones work fine.

I have reinstalled DVB Viewer 3.5 and CoreAVC 1.1, AC3Filter 1.11 which was the last working setup. I have also tried the newer DVB Viewer (3.6 xx) and AC3Filter 1.45 all to no avail. I can watch BBC HD OK and play the older recordings but any new ones don't work (SD broadcasts will record and playback OK BTW). I wanted to set my HTPC up to record tomorrow's Wembly concert, but at this rate no chance.

I have tried playing back new HD recordings using the TSPlayer and it gives an error message of 'Cannot find valid video/audio streams'. I set DVB Viewer to record as a .ts file BTW.

Has the BBC changed something about the broadcast signal, or maybe I need to go back to a 'Ghost' image I took of the C drive when I got everything setup some months back?

Re: DVB Viewer can't record BBC HD anymore!

Looks like I got to the bottom of it: BBC have a bug in the PMT (Program Map Table): It says it's a Private 1 Stream, but the PES start codes are 00 00 01 C0, as for MPEG audio. It should be 00 00 01 BD, however, the content is AC3.

This stops some software from detecting and processing the AC3 stream properly...including DVB Viewer. The fix is to use 'BBC HD fixer' to repair existing recordings. I think you also have to rescan for channels, to make new recordings work OK, but I may be wrong on that (I'll edit this post if I find out, incase anyone else comes across this problem).

BBC HD Fixer (you have to register to download it):

Hope this helps. I didn't fancy having to 'Ghost' back to a previous setup (not that it would have helped as it turns out) as I would have to reconnect a VGA cable to allow me to 'see' my Bios screen and use the Norton recovery program.
