Re: ntldr

NTLDR is the first-phase boot process that is run by the Master Boot Record (MBR) on the first hard disk when booting or re-booting the system .. in other words, it's what starts booting Windows (starting with Windows NT, the name is shorthand for NTLoaDeR).

This message indicates the MBR is unable to find a bootable NT/2K/XP system on the currently selected active boot partition.

It may be that something/someone has changed the 'Active' partition or it could be a corrupt Windows system partition, impossible to know which without more analysis. You could try booting the Windows install CD and select "Repair" when given the option, it may manage to breathe life back into the system. If not I'm afraid you'll have to find someone with the technical knowledge to try to analyse what's wrong.

Re: ntldr

Usually a corrupt Windows Install.

If boot order is set incorrectly though and machine is trying to boot from a CD or floppy left in the drive you will also get this error so worth checking for that before re-installing windows.

If not you can boot from the XP cd go into the recovery console and use the "fixboot" command to try and repair but it rarely does

Re: ntldr

Make sure you do a Full format NOT quick format when re-installing windows. a Full NTFS format from windows setup will also run a checkdisk /F, this will detect any bad sectors on the drive and mark tham as such to stop windows trying to write to them.

Re: ntldr

forget sending it back to Overclockers for now. a cheap 120gb-200gb hard drive will only cost you about £30 from Ebuyer/Dabs etc..

Pop a new hard disk in and try rebuilding again. best case it works, worst case you have a spare hard drive you can always use as more storage.

if the file copy hangs in the same place each time it could be a problem with your windows CD, does it have any scratches/marks on it?

May be worth trying to borrow one from somebody

Re: ntldr

Hey
i accidently deleted a couple of files that were under manage files in spy eraser. One was NTLDR same thing happend to me, in that it would not boot up "crtl alt del to restart" As i had deleted the file and shredded the waste bin i lost it so could not install the file. As a result my local pc shop managed to save some data from the hard drive, although they had to reinstall windows and lost all my programs. Have to start from scratch.
Point to the story is take a image of your pc regularly
