Blue-ray & hd films

Question

Why is it taking so long for films to come out on Blue-Ray or HD dvd ? and who makes the decision to release films on Blue-Ray or HD

I have a large amount of films i would like to buy , but they will take years to become Blue-Ray or HD format , so i will not buy them yet

Its a shame the buyer does not have a say in the matter

Studios will rarely release their Grade A titles onto a new format upon it's launch - it stands to reason that such titles need to attract the maximium publicity and should be high revenue earners - neither really occurs at a formats launch. Furthermore launch titles are invariably skewed towards the type of films 'early adopters' like: as most of us are 'working age males' this invariable means SciFi and Action Films.

Rascask makes a good point. Also, the studios wont release the truly big hitters until the format (whichever that may be) settles down, and is more popular. Remember how long we had to wait on DVD for the likes of Star Wars / Back to the Future / Indiana Jones / The Godfather.

The good thing is that we are getting new releases such as Blood Diamond / Babel / Children of Men / Rocky Balboa.

It will be at least another year before we see the real big hitters from the back catalogues though
