network media centre vs x-box

so ive read all of the info here about network media centers

i am currently using my modded xbox, which works perfect in streaming avi's etc & large photos (12mb+) to my tv over a wired network

but i'd like to download some hi-def and stream that

ive looked at

kiss

helios

rhapsody

snazio

feecom

dodgy chinese stuff on ebay

hauppage

x-box360

etc. etc.

im not bothered about a hard disk - ive got 1000gb attached to the pc

im not fussed about dvd drive - ive got a samsung dvd & a tosh hd-dvd

all i want to do is access the files i download on my pc via the network with minimal hassle - in fact just as easy as it is with the x-box - e.g. no software to install on the 'host' pc

question is does anyone have any recommendations as they all have pros & cons


any help would be appreciated

Well, I've been looking at this as a solution for streaming content from the PC to the x-box 360...

So its not quite "no software on host PC" - but it looks like the most simple thing in the world to set up. And there's no extra hardware etc required.

I've not tried it myself, but others have and reckon it can stream HD stuff fine (depending on how good your PC and network is).
