This is excellent, I've not seen this, but everyone's said how great it was. The BBC still don't seem to advertise HD content and I was ready to be furious.

Anyway, just checked radiotimes and there are 2 back2back episodes 9pm-9:40-10:20 on both BBC2 and HD. With a repeat on both channels Thursday at 11:20 for just episode 1, but RT only goes 2 weeks.

What is odd, there is a programme called "Heroes Unmasked", which is on BBC2 for 10 minutes after the show, but on BBC HD, a show just called "Heroes" is on for 10 minutes, hopefully the name is the mistake and the extra will be in HD also.

So this will be season 1?

EDIT: Yes it's season 1. I'll save buying the HD-DVD too!

Not seen any eps yet, so going to watch to see what all the hype is about!

Radio times has updated and the repeat is now 2 back2back episodes also. There is no repeat of the behind the scenes show though.

Onn BBC HD there seems to be 2 eps listed followed by a "Heroes Uncovered" show.

FYI this is preceeded by a Top Gear special in HD :)

meltonboy, I already mentioned the "Heroes unmasked" show and said that it isn't repeated.

Well a second repeat of the first two shows in now listed on Sunday (22:55-23:35-00:15) But still no repeat of unmasked.

Next week, unmasked is on after one episode, then there is another episode on BBC3 (and HD). The Thursday repeat only repeats episode 3 though, so it looks like BBC3's is like a week ahead kind of thing, but HD still shows it. It's hard keeping up with modern scheduling :god:

EDIT: maybe the repeat will be both ep's will have to check at midnight, because ep3 finishes at 00:05 so the listings stop...

so episode 3 is on BBC2, and episodes 3&4 are on BBC3/HD?

what happens the week after? Do BBC3/HD reshow episode 4, followed by 5?

Whats going to happen to a series link on BBCHD?

Cod Piece

Episode 3 is on BBC2, followed by "Heroes Unmasked". But then episode 4 is on BBC3. ALL showings are also on BBC HD. I guess since it is advertised as a BBC2 show that the BBC3 is like E4's "first look" and ep4 will be on again the week after on BBC2.

This is all the published listings so far:

Ep1: Genesis
Wednesday 25 July, 9:00pm - 9:40pm BBC2
Thursday 26 July, 11:20pm - 12:05am BBC2
Sunday 29 July, 10:50pm - 11:30pm BBC2

Ep2: Don't Look Back
Wednesday 25 July 9:40pm - 10:20pm BBC2
Friday 27 July, 12:05am - 12:45am BBC2
Sunday 29 July, 11:30pm - 12:10am BBC2

Ep3: One Giant Leap
Wednesday 01 August, 9:00pm - 9:45pm BBC2
Thursday 02 August, 11:20pm - 12:05am BBC2

Ep4: Collision
Wednesday 01 August, 10:00pm - 10:40pm BBC3

Heroes Unmasked

Ep1: A New Dawn
Wednesday 25 July 10:20pm - 10:30pm BBC2

Ep2: Growing Pains
Wednesday 01 August, 9:45pm - 10:00pm BBC2

I'm a little ****** there is only one showing of each unmasked, but all these repeats of the main show may come in handy because of all the bad weather threatening to ruin my satellite caps.

There is no repeat of the BBC3 episode, so it most likely will not be on again until it is shown in it's proper slot the following Wednesday on BBC2.

So I assume no 5.1 on this episode?

Cod Piece
26-07-2007, 6:08 PM
There was no 5.1 no.

Like I said in the other thread I emailed the BBC the other day and all they said was my request for 5.1 had been noted.

That is really annoying! (I don't have BBC HD), but they paid soo much for the series!!! And it's propably a LOT easier to get 5.1 on this than, say Wimbledon/Footy.

Was the PQ immense though?

Cod Piece
26-07-2007, 7:04 PM
PQ was overall as you would expect, but varied in some shots. I didn't think the grain looked good and particularly shots of the sky or large grey areas looks like bubbling or bugs under a sheet.

Yeah I don't get why the BBC keep putting things out in stereo, this clearly has a 5.1 track as it was used in the US. They do it on films too, the promos in between are 5.1, with the ac3 header coming sometimes inside the shows audio, (which upsets my bluetooth headphones :()

I love the HD shots of New York Skyline!!! Looks great :)

PQ wasn't as good as I hoped, like some said the distance shots looked excellent but the close ups just looked SD !!

Plus if you sky+ it each episode is only 4% which is barely more than a SD programme, compare it to one of BBC's own HD programmes like Torchwood and that was around 8% per episode, so I guess the Heroes bitrate isn't that good.

The bitrate on BBCHD is more or less constant, it has recently been lowered though. http://www.linowsat.com/0282/history/2050/6940.html

This is about 7.05-7.2 GB/hour depending on if you record the secondary audio. So that makes the sky+ HD 100GB? The recording I have is 12.7GB for the three shows. Most channels come in around 1.5-2GB an hour.

I'm only going off my sky+ guide which says 4% hard disk taken. I know it's not the most accurate guide in the world, but also bear in mind as its BBCHD there are no adverts so it's just a 40 min show and not an hour.

Cod Piece

Yeah only 40mins, like I said my recording of the 3 shows 1,2 and unmasked is 12.7GB, that's 1h46m. I found an old one of Planet Earth from November, which is 8.78GB and only 63m.

My TVDrive crashed early last night, so i lost stuff. Fortunately i was back for the 10pm episode having seen the earlier one.

Did anyone else notice we had DD5.1 last night, i believe for the first time in the series

Yep but didn't notice very much surround action though ?

Fair comment, i didn't notice much surround action either, but am always pleased to see DD5.1 come up on my amp as progress for BBC HD...

There wasn't any 5.1. The episode which was shown after Unmasked the previous week was flagged as 2.0, this time it was flagged as 5.1, as was unmasked and the new "look ahead" episode. None had anything in the other channels. The headers were there though, as the dB levels are set and inbetween unmasked and the second show there are different headers.

This is 3 minutes of the first show, unmasked, then the second show, as you can see only the promos after unmasked have any other channels.

The more worrying thing is that unmasked is not being shown on HD this week due to the football and is not being shown at another time according to the current listings.

Did anyone else have a picture break up on the BBC HD showing last night ?

Mine was all over the place at about 1025pm - vertical liness of something. Had to switch to Three. In fact i had the same problem last week but only for a few seconds.

I wonder if this is BBC or the TV drive / V+ box ?

Yeah I'm in North London on Virginmedia and had a couple of prolonged break up of the picture during the England game and then Heroes.

I agree - I record Heroes on BBC 2 but watch on BBC HD - and the picture difference isn't marked at all.

In many scenes thee's very little difference.

It's certainly no 'Torchwood' picture quality.

As I've posted in the Satellite section of the forum - the HD Heroes picture quality seemed better this week than last week.
