TV Choices

I'm about to move house and buy a new TV and, up until now, I've been pretty adamant that the TV I was going to get was the Panasonic TH-37PX70 because I've read some amazing reviews of it.

However, I'm getting increasingly worried about future proofing and so I'm thinking about 1080p. The thing is I've only got about £800 to play with so the only one within my price range is the Sharp LC37XD1E or the Toshiba 37X3030DB.

Is 1080p really worth it when, theoretically, the Panasonic should be a much better TV? Also, the Panasonic has a "1080p Digital Processing Chip-Set", whatever that means. I'm assuming it just accepts a 1080p signal and then scales it down to either 1080i or 720p?

One thing that is bothering me a little about the Panasonic however is that its resolution is 1024x720 whereas all other 720p HDTVs I've seen have been 1366x768. Why's this?

IMO, not on a 37" display. Unless you're proposing to sit with your eyes less than 5 feet from the screen.

On a larger screen it is (again, IMO) most emphatically worth it.

The panny's are only 1366 x 768 on the 50inch and above models. I personally wouldn't worry to much about 1080p for the time being save some cash and buy a decent 720p set now and upgrade if you feel like later. Personally at no point have I looked at my set in HD and been bothered that it's not 1080p (it looks that good)
