Performance increase from 2GB to 4GB RAM

I was thinking of getting a 4GB kit for my MacBook Pro from Crucial....but, as it already has 2GB I was wondering if there would be any appreciable increase in performance.

Does anyone have any experience of whether this would be of benefit (for normal browsing, use of CS3 and Lightroom etc -- nothing really major). Would there be a performance increase in start-up/shut down of the machine and programs?

Re: Performance increase from 2GB to 4GB RAM

Well more ram is always welcomed, no you probaby wont notice a immediate difference, but it will be there, less spinning beach balls, smoother running, operations a tad quicker.

Startup and shutdown, dont think memory has much effect on this.
Ram costs hardly anything now, compared to the 80, 90s. I know it was alot! i dont know exact prices, does anyone?, but off the web; In 1980, 1 Megabyte RAM was £3,000-6,000. 1985, £400 for 128KB.
