Nuvi 660 or PDA?

Hi Folks

I've used basic models of both Garmin & Tom Tom sat nav systems. While I preferred the display on the Tom Tom I've found the Garmin to be more accurate & didn't freeze up like the Tom Tom has on several occasions.

I 'm now in the market for a slim line sat nav system. I had my heart set on a Nuvi 660 but a friend says I should consider a PDA with sat nav.

Would any of you consider a PDA with sat nav over a dedicated sat nav such as the Nuvi 660?

Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

P.

Re: Nuvi 660 or PDA?

I have used both and much prefer the stand alone GPS, which is a Nuvi 350.
You need to consider the size of the screen, the mapping OS and how often it will be updated as well as the cost. I found that the PDA was not as clear as my GPS, the sound was muffled and it was more fiddly to use as you had to use a stylus rather than your finger. It was a couple of years ago though so things might have changed.
As always its down to personal preference, take yourself to JL or Halfords and check them all out.

Re: Nuvi 660 or PDA?

I've been using a PDA-based Sat Nav for a few years now. Overall usefulness is great (it syncs with my Outlook calender, has my contacts on it, MP3 player, etc); but if you're looking at something like a nuvi 660, go with the 660.

Bigger screen, more useful navigation-related software, TMC traffic updates; and in this case, you can use it as a Bluetooth hands-free kit, too! Which is portable from car-to-car

So, if your primary focus is actually the Sat Nav element, that's the way to go. If you're only going to use that functionality once in a while, only then is the PDA-route is worth considering.

In my humble opinion, of course! (which is why I'm now looking to get a nuvi myself)
