Plain and simple pull down screen
As much as I like my Grey Wolf II I can not help but notice (far too often for comfort) the sparkles along with whites that are grey
So is there such a thing as a cheap and cheerful pull down (sprung type like the GWII) 16:9 screen ?
Not after miracles - just a screen that can be pulled into use and springs up when not needed (as the GWII does) and thats weighted at the bottom
Something thats a step up from a blackout blind and as siad cheap and cheerful

Re: Plain and simple pull down screen
Hi dUnKle
How about the stanard Panoview W92 or the Beamax R-Black 92.
But neither of these screen's are guaranteed to work as blackout blinds but I think you'll find that for most of the screens at this level.
Regards. Shane.

Re: Plain and simple pull down screen
Hi dUnKle,
If your projectors bright enough, Matte White would be the best compromise for budget.
I guess my top recommendation would be the Sapphire Parklane series which have a soft or controlled retraction prolonging the lifetime of the screen. Great quality for the price.
If your happy with the material quality of the Panoview, their Matte White version is probably one of the cheapest you can buy.
If the higher gain is an absolute must, Da-Lite have a 1.5 gain (Video Spectre 1.5) surface but at a cost.
Hope this helps.

Im just after something cheap and cheerful (£150 or so)
My room is pretty much blacked out (very little light once blind and curtains down)

Re: Plain and simple pull down screen
Hi dUnKle, as you've discovered - screens that give sparklies are over rated and grey whites are what you expect when the washing machine's up the spout.
Grandview, who make screens under lots of different names, do a very simple manual 16:9 pull down screen with woven fibreglass with unity gain. With a projector as bright as the ones currently being used in home cinemas the last thing you should be using is a screen with any gain other than unity. If you PM me your dimensions I'll sort you out a price.

Re: Plain and simple pull down screen
We do have a Paypal account although I haven't used it for some time. The account was set up for sales via eBay, where we occasionally sell the screens that the couriers manage to damage!

Re: Plain and simple pull down screen
Beamax, Da-Lite, Draper, Projecta and other manufacturers all offer woven fibreglass materials. Most of them have been doing so for many years and have mastered the art.
Don't get cought out paying too much for something that's just hype.
Some of the Beamax and Sapphire screens have controlled screen retraction as standard.
Hope this helps.
