It was lovely an hour ago
Well, here we are at the end of the comp and I never did get to go out taking candid shots. I only had two days off during the month and spent them with my family.
In typical British style we ended up getting caught in a heavy downpour which I managed to snap while feeling cold and miserable. The kids didn't mind though and you can see that everyone in the tent is still smiling. Once I got home I realised I could have done some simple things to improve it - next time
Exif should be on the Flickr page.
Basically I shot RAW, then converted twice to 2 exposures. Then I masked the darker image over the top of the other to get the sky detail and enhance the rain. Then I did colour adjustments (channel mixer and a 'colour dodge' layer).

Re: It was lovely an hour ago
Very good. Nice processing but I would have lost the sandy bit in the foreground with a crop. Good entry

I know! - I was soaked though and only wearing shorts and a t-shirt - I got his while running back to the car to get people's coats.
But even in the time I had, I should have grabbed a spade and dug it in the sand to the bottom left and asked one of them to look up at the sky - as I say next time

Re: It was lovely an hour ago
Nice shot - I like the composition, and I also quite like the sandy foreground.
Personally, I think I woudl have preferred a straight B/W, eithe that or just a little more saturation. I can see what you were gewtting at with it, but I think it's just a little shot of colour.
I find the bright patch on the wind break a little distracting too.
Generally though, I really like it, and it's nicely on theme - and no flags

Re: It was lovely an hour ago
Really like the shot and the pp has given it a look all of its own.
Sums up the British mentality to a tee as well

Re: It was lovely an hour ago
I thought long and hard about b&w - I think it may have been more popular, but I am also trying to learn how to get certain effects I've seen on flickr and liked. This was one of those attempts. I'm not there yet, but I enjoyed the process.

Re: It was lovely an hour ago
I LOVE this image. I think it is very british, and you have captured the theme perfectly.
My only issue is I am against the use of PP. Not to hi-jack your thread, but sometimes it feels like this is less a photo competition and more of a PP competition.

Re: It was lovely an hour ago
I can understand the PP point of view - it's one of the reasons we are asked to explain what we did - so that voters can decide for themselves.
I prefer it when my images come out of the camera just how I want them too (like last month), but most of the time I prefer to get the end result regardless of how it's done.
I actually have a version of this photo with a spade photoshopped into the foreground. I'm guessing it wouldn't have got your vote!

Re: It was lovely an hour ago
As I said it's a lovely image. But I am rubbish at photoshop and feel imtimidated by some people's skill with it. On alot of photo competitions I enter they have 2 seperate sections. This allows the photoshop crowd to go wild and get very creative, whilst the people with just camera skills slug it out elsewhere.
I didn't want to single you out as this is just my view and in no way does it mean I don't like your image.

Re: It was lovely an hour ago
How do you spot a British family, with kids, on ANY beach in the world?
They are the ones with the tent!
Love it......... my favorite so far. Well done.
