Has anyont tried this or played with one. It has been improved from orginal and now much more powerful (28,980 BTU/hr).

http://www.elliotts.co.uk/aircon/lofty_temp.htm

Want to 4 upstairs bedrooms as per the picture and also another unit in new extension loft feeding 2 outlets in cinema room and 2 to a kitchen,

Cheers

Re: Lofty Air Conditioning

We dont have the Lofty setup, but we do have a multi-room Daikin inverter air conditioning setup supplied and fitted by Global Cooling who I can highly recommend. They have the Lofty on their site.

Re: Lofty Air Conditioning

Slight variation - we are looking at using a heat-pump to heat a swimming pool, and I'd love to use the resulting 'waste' cold air to cool the house (in the summer at least). Anyone seen this done?

Cheers

Sounds simple but quite complex to set up. Basically as you want the heat to be constant for the pool then diverting the 'cold' from the rooms to the outside is difficult. Plus when the pool is up to temperature where does the 'heat' go when the house needs cooling.

Re: Lofty Air Conditioning

Thanks for your response.

First is fair, though no more complex than most HVAC systems for buildings - I believe that there are plenty of air dampers/diverters for commercial premises.

On the second, the mass of the pool (75,000 kg) is such that if AC for the house was required then it would make little difference to the pool - you'd simply allow it to get a little bit warmer. What intruiges me is that I've not seen/heard of anyone doing it, even in the US where there are more pools and more need for AC ... so wondered if anyone else had.

We're not talking about moving air of course rather diverting refrigerant round various evaporators. That is far more complex than dampers etc.

However the closest to what you're after is the current rage of a.c manufacturers the heat pump boiler recovery system

http://www.daikin.co.uk/aircondition...ma/default.jsp

Mitsubishi has a similar one on their website

For which we're both registered installers, not cheap though... ;-)

These have the added bonus as it can be diverted again for the winter to provide heat inside when the pool is out of season.

Cheers

Re: Lofty Air Conditioning

For some reason I hadn't considered using different evaporators etc., even though it sounds obvious. Most of the heat pumps I've seen are all in one unit (and rather large). But, every AC system I've seen splits them, so I should have thought of it. Will investigate further (and start a new thread, if I come back here, rather than hijack)
