Monitor Audio BRFX Speakers Query
Hi Guys
I am totally loving my new Bronze series speakers but have a quick question.
I used to have Kef 2005.2s as the rears and when I watched films with surround sound the rears were fairly prominent.
My BRFXs do not seem to be as "loud" and the eggs and in most scenes I can hardly tell they are on. Even listening to Prologic II I cannot tell anything is coming from behind.
Is it true that this is the correct way to be listening to these speakers and that you should not be able to hear individual speakers and they should all blend into one?
I have an Onkyo 674 amp and have tried adjusting all the levels.
When I watch House of the flying daggers on Blue Ray the sound is awesome and the rears sound great but I feel I am not making the most of these speakers.
I have the rears just above my couch on the back wall so they are just above head height (when sitting down)
Am I just being silly?

They should be on the side walls either side of your seating position or a little bit behind. If they are directly above your head I'm not surprised you don't hear much from them.
Your speakers should be set out as below

Thanks but they are at each end of the sofa. The Left side one is near the wall anyway and I cannot move the right one further across because it is next to a door. I have read you can have your speakers behind the sofa.
Heres a pic.

Re: Monitor Audio BRFX Speakers Query
Hi
Surrounds should not attract attention to themselves, and the dipoles tend to distribute the sound well, and hence seem 'soft'. Avoid boosting their volumes too much.
Cheers

Re: Monitor Audio BRFX Speakers Query
do you have them in bipole or dipole mode?...try altering the mode to see if that helps...
in pro logic you shouldnt hear that much info from rears anyhow, its more of an ambience thing, some shows like Star Trek Voyager mix more rear info in to the matrix for DS certainly, but not many shows do that....
however in DD movies, you should get decent sound coming from them....my SFX's are amazing in films, you dont hear the sound coming from the speaker itself generally, more that the whole rear of the room and sides are filled with sounds whizzing and banging around....heh....its remarkably stuff.....
get an SPL meter and set the speakers up manually, the test tone on the amp should read 75db (on the SPL meter) on each channel individually from the primary seating position.......do that and then see how stuff sounds...

Re: Monitor Audio BRFX Speakers Query
Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I found the problem, nothing to do with the speakers. I found that on my PS3 a couple of the 5.1 sound options were not ticked so I think it was only outputting at a lower bitrate. Just watched a film and it seems find now.
Rear speakers were excellent.
